3. Many psychologists think of the behavior as a way for an individual to avoid having to deal with the anxiety that comes with working on a task.

5. Statistics regarding Procrastination In 1992, a study was conducted that showed that 52% of surveyed students claimed having a moderate to high need for help concerning procrastination. Other estimations show that 80-95% of college students engage in some type of procrastination. 75% of these people go as far as even labeling themselves as “procrastinators”.

6. How Procrastination can be a danger in your future. Procrastinating in college is one thing, but doing so in the professional world can be very dangerous. If you’re given the task of writing an important document for your company, and you choose to wait until the last possible moment to start it, either: 1. You will not be able to finish it in time, or 2. You will (barely) complete it, but it will not look nearly as good as it would had you not waited so long to start it. In either case, you’re likely to get in trouble with your boss and (if you keep procrastinating) you will be fired.

Tips for how to deal with procrastination To avoid looking like one of the people in the previous slide on the day something of yours is due, try to: Understand the primary cause for why you would rather do tasks later rather than sooner. Train yourself so that you can at least start the assignment pretty much as soon as it is assigned to you. The hardest part is always getting started, after all. Set deadlines for yourself, and reward yourself whenever you’re able to complete something challenging long before it’s actually due.
