Emotional Agility and Resilience - Managing Your Inner Team
Working in emotionally charged contexts is the reality for most leaders - whether it be pressure to compete for business, collaborating within
key relationships, building high performance teams or retaining talent pools. Yet few leaders really understand how to manage the psychological
mechanisms that play out in the workplace to genuinely bring the best of themselves and their people to work.
In fact, many leaders apply untested assumptions about the human experience and as a result, create cultures that limit rather than facilitate peak
performance. The experience of women leaders in the finance and banking sector is a case in point. Significant under-representation of women
leaders at senior levels combined with the human propensity to interact with others of the same gender, have led to a paucity of female role models
and limited access to influential networks and sponsors. Added to this challenge is the double bind facing many high potential women: the mismatch
between conventionally feminine qualities and the capabilities assumed necessary for successful leadership.
Why focus on emotional agility and resilience? Research in the fields of neuroscience, neurobiology and human development provide convincing
evidence of the impact of a leader’s psychological flexibility on their capacity to achieve challenging performance targets and build influence with
stakeholders. This masterclass will provide practical resources to:
• Help navigate organisational, cultural or social barriers to building profile and expanding networks,
• Provide insight and understanding of how your ‘internal dialogue’ can limit your capacity for resilience, and
• Create a safe space to identify role models whose styles and behaviours you can observe and experiment with to integrate with your own strengths
and values.
Rather than attempting to train women to be more like men, this experience is aimed at equipping the banking and finance sector’s female talent
pool to internalise and celebrate their leadership identities and become more mindful leaders and role models.
This highly interactive, experiential workshop aims to help you to:
• Normalise and share the experiences of women navigating leadership careers in Banking and Finance
• Build access to networks and genuine sponsors
• Uncover and capitalise on unique strengths
• Advance a sense of purpose to internalise leadership identity and build profile
• Build awareness of inner dialogue and what it takes to develop emotional agility and resilience

Build resilience through cultivating relationships
with your inner team
Creating a thriving workplace culture characterised by
healthy relationships, strong results and a resilient mindset
is the ultimate challenge for today’s leader. Yet many leaders
unwittingly neglect to manage the complex psychological
mechanisms that play out in the workplace and accordingly
sabotage their efforts to become mindful and authentic role
models. In this highly interactive session, Kerryn will provide
insights into how advances in neuroscience and recent
discoveries in psychology are revolutionising our capacity to
manage the internal dialogue that can undermine our potential
to be self aware, self-assured and resilient leaders. Illustrates:
• How your relationship with your inner team can limit your
capacity for resilience
• The importance of emotional agility for cultivating a thriving
workplace
• Practical resources to more effectively manage your inner team.

success at an executive level. Explore:

  • 2. Phone: +61 2 8239 9700 Fax: +61 2 8239 9777 www.liquidlearning.com.au Pre-Summit Workshop 15 June 2015 9.00 - 4.30 Emotional Agility and Resilience - Managing Your Inner Team Working in emotionally charged contexts is the reality for most leaders - whether it be pressure to compete for business, collaborating within key relationships, building high performance teams or retaining talent pools. Yet few leaders really understand how to manage the psychological mechanisms that play out in the workplace to genuinely bring the best of themselves and their people to work. In fact, many leaders apply untested assumptions about the human experience and as a result, create cultures that limit rather than facilitate peak performance. The experience of women leaders in the finance and banking sector is a case in point. Significant under-representation of women leaders at senior levels combined with the human propensity to interact with others of the same gender, have led to a paucity of female role models and limited access to influential networks and sponsors. Added to this challenge is the double bind facing many high potential women: the mismatch between conventionally feminine qualities and the capabilities assumed necessary for successful leadership. Why focus on emotional agility and resilience? Research in the fields of neuroscience, neurobiology and human development provide convincing evidence of the impact of a leader’s psychological flexibility on their capacity to achieve challenging performance targets and build influence with stakeholders. This masterclass will provide practical resources to: • Help navigate organisational, cultural or social barriers to building profile and expanding networks, • Provide insight and understanding of how your ‘internal dialogue’ can limit your capacity for resilience, and • Create a safe space to identify role models whose styles and behaviours you can observe and experiment with to integrate with your own strengths and values. Rather than attempting to train women to be more like men, this experience is aimed at equipping the banking and finance sector’s female talent pool to internalise and celebrate their leadership identities and become more mindful leaders and role models. This highly interactive, experiential workshop aims to help you to: • Normalise and share the experiences of women navigating leadership careers in Banking and Finance • Build access to networks and genuine sponsors • Uncover and capitalise on unique strengths • Advance a sense of purpose to internalise leadership identity and build profile • Build awareness of inner dialogue and what it takes to develop emotional agility and resilience Expert Facilitator: Kerryn Velleman Director and Organisational Psychologist Kru Consulting Kerryn is Founder and Director of Kru Consulting, a practice that creates coaching cultures through the delivery of executive coaching, leadership development and change consulting to Australian and global organisations. Prior to establishing Kru in 2003, Kerryn grew her career as an internal consultant and project manager in the finance sector, culminating in leading the learning and development function for the Australian business of a global financial services group. As an Organisational Psychologist, Kerryn engages executive teams, partnering with leaders and their people to build resilience and sustainable culture change. Spanning professional services, banking and finance, transport, real estate, community health, biomedical research, aged care and the emergency services sector, Kerryn coaches at CEO, partner, director and senior executive levels. She guides professionals in the negotiation and management of their careers, coaches women to strengthen their presence in the various roles they play in life and work and supports professionals to successfully integrate their work lives with their multiple roles as parents, family and community members. Kerryn’s work is informed by her strong commercial experience, grounded in evidence-based practices from organisational psychology, human development and neuroscience. Qualified with the Institute of Executive Leadership and Coaching (IECL), the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Psychology Registration Board, (PsyBA) and the International Coaching Federation (ICF) , Kerryn is an active supervisor and mentor of developing psychologists, coaches and professionals and leads the Women in Leadership group for the Victorian College of Organisational Psychologists. In this session Wendy will share her leadership lessons, many of which have been gained through identifying and observing others with particular skills and capabilities and then practising these in a safe environment. Includes: • Overcoming self-doubt and leading with confidence • Lessons learnt and practical insights for success Wendy Thorpe Group Executive, Operations, and Director, Melbourne AMP 11.35 - 11.45 Questions and Discussion 11.45 - 12.25 EXPERT COMMENTARY Build resilience through cultivating relationships with your inner team Creating a thriving workplace culture characterised by healthy relationships, strong results and a resilient mindset is the ultimate challenge for today’s leader. Yet many leaders unwittingly neglect to manage the complex psychological mechanisms that play out in the workplace and accordingly sabotage their efforts to become mindful and authentic role models. In this highly interactive session, Kerryn will provide insights into how advances in neuroscience and recent discoveries in psychology are revolutionising our capacity to manage the internal dialogue that can undermine our potential to be self aware, self-assured and resilient leaders. Illustrates: • How your relationship with your inner team can limit your capacity for resilience • The importance of emotional agility for cultivating a thriving workplace • Practical resources to more effectively manage your inner team.
