PDCA
Cycle
One essential condition to deliver IT projects on time is that before the
project starts, you have to spend some time to prepare for it in a
professional way.
The PDCA (Plan – Do – Check – Act)
problem solving approach called a “Deming
cycle”  gives us a clear view of how
important those stages are for the
project’s final success.
Set up the objectives of the
project
It is extremely hard to achieve the goal if you don’t know what it is and how to reach it.
To make sure that you keep the track, draft your general goals and the  definition of
done for the whole project.
Planning is the key to the final success
It is all about communication
When you are building your team, it is much better for the team to
consist of qualified members with strong communication skills,
rather than top-notch specialists without soft skills.
That will ensure that  the whole team will work together towards the
same final goal.
Divide the full project into smaller, manageable targets with deadlines. It is
very important to calculate the length accurately and in proper order.
All steps should have their priorities established.
Make deadlines
Give yourself more time for the
main tasks
When scheduling your main tasks, give yourself a bit more time than you think
you’ll need. If some complications arise, you will need that extra hour to solve them.
This will allow you to overcome any possible complication without delaying the
delivery date.
Again: communication above all
Keep transparent communication with the client and among
each other, talk about any potential problems even before they
occur.
Execution means keeping the project
on the right track
Always be clear with the scope
It is crucial for the final success to be on the
same page about the scope with every
member of the project (within and outside
the team). PMs should discuss the project
scope as much as possible.
Everybody must understand
their role
At the beginning of the project, major responsibilities should be
communicated as well as various checkpoints throughout the
project. It will help both sides verify if the project is on schedule
and financial track
Key takeaways
Set up the objectives of the project so you can make sure that you
stay on  track
When you are building your team, consider that communication is
really important.
Divide the full project into smaller, manageable targets and establish
deadlines.
Before the project starts, you have to spend some time to prepare for
it in a professional way.
When scheduling your main tasks, be flexible with the time. in case
some complications arise, you will be  allowed to overcome them
without delaying the delivery date.
Key takeaways
Keep transparent communication with the client
PMs should discuss the project scope often to make sure every
member of the project (within and outside the team) is on the same
page.
At the beginning of the project, major responsibilities should be
communicated
Having a contingency plan at least for the most important phases and
milestones is imperative.
