Honorable Congressman Bob
Filner – Congressman, 51st
CA
Congressional District
Congressman Filner represents
California’s 51st
Congressional
District, one of the most ethnically
diverse districts in the nation and
encompasses southern San Diego
County and all of Imperial County, including the
entire California/Mexico border. Congressman
Filner has been an active member of our community
for more than four decades. He was first elected to
Congress in 1992 and during his years in Congress,
he has served on the House of Representatives
Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. In
his position, he works to highlight and address the
unique transportation needs of San Diego and
Imperial Counties as well as the U.S./Mexico
border region.
Mike McKeever, AICP -
Executive Director, Sacramento
Area Council of Governments
Mr. McKeever was appointed
Executive Director of SACOG
Board of Directors on December
17, 2004. He has focused his 30
plus year career on effective
regional planning, and during his tenure at SACOG,
the organization has established itself as a national
leader in sustainable, integrated regional planning.
He was a key contributor to California’s SB375, the
nation's most comprehensive regional planning law
linking climate change, transportation, land use, and
housing planning and was appointed by the
California Air Resources Board to chair the
Regional Targets Advisory Committee, a 21 person
statewide committee to assist in the implementation
of SB375.
Reed Vickerman – Vice President,
Corporate Operations, Amylin
Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Mr. Vickerman has served as Vice President,
Corporate Operations for Amylin
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since May of 2007 and
previously served as Amylin's Vice President
of Information Technology, Facilities, and
Community Affairs. He serves on the Move San Diego Board
of Directors, the Biotechnology Manufacturing Advisory
Board for UCSD Extension, the UCSD Undergraduate Schol-
arship Council, the Board of San Diego Voices for Children
and was a founding board member of the Life Sciences Infor-
mation Technology Institute. He is a member of the San Diego
Regional Economic Development Corporation’s Next Genera-
tion Leadership Committee and the San Diego Chamber of
Commerce. He is a graduate of the LEAD San Diego commu-
nity leadership development program.
James F. Sallis Ph.D. – Director, SDSU
Active Living Research Center
Dr. Sallis is a Professor of Psychology at
SDSU and Director of Active Living
Research. His primary research interests are
promoting physical activity and
understanding policy and environmental
influences on physical activity, nutrition,
and obesity and currently his focus is using this research to
inform policy and environmental changes that will increase
physical activity and reduce childhood obesity. He has made
contributions in the areas of measurement, correlates of
physical activity, intervention, and advocacy, and his health
improvement programs have been studied and used in health
care settings, schools, universities, and companies. Dr. Sallis
is also an author of over 400 scientific publications, co-author
of several books, on the editorial boards of several journals,
and one of the world's most cited authors in the social
sciences.
Charles Gandy - Mobility
Coordinator, City of Long
Beach
Mr. Gandy is a nationally
recognized expert in
community design, trail
planning and design, and
bicycle and pedestrian
advocacy. He has worked as a political
activist on the livable communities agenda
professionally since 1990 and is a popular
consultant, speaker, and lecturer on the
leading edge of both the active living and
livability conversations. As the Mobility
Coordinator for Long Beach’s Bike Long
Beach program, Gandy is leading Long
Beach’s award winning “sharrow” experi-
ment and the 3rd and Broadway “Protected
Bike Lane” pilot program. He is delighted to
be a part of the remarkable culture shift em-
bracing both bicycling and walking and its
significant rewards.
Barry J. Schultz -
Moderator
Mr. Schultz is the former
Chair of the City of San
Diego Planning Commission
and is a Special Counsel
with Stutz, Artiano, Shinoff
& Holtz focusing on real estate/land use,
redevelopment, affordable housing, and sus-
tainable development. He is the urban com-
munity advisor to the San Diego/Tijuana Dis-
trict Council for the Urban Land Institute,
serves on the boards of Wakeland Housing &
Development Corporation, Citizens Coordi-
nate for Century 3, and the San Diego Com-
munity Land Trust.
