2. Advertising
• Commercial advertising is the most known way in which
radio is funded. This works by the station selling airtime
for the buyers to advertise their product. Spots vary in
price depending on their length, the time or day and the
show.
3. Listeners Donations
• Listeners donate because they like the radio show. This is
one of the easiest methods of funding. As well as this
radio stations ask the listeners to call in and give their
view or enter a competition. When listeners call in they
are charged and some of it goes to the radio station.
4. Non-Government Organisations
• Non-government organisation are sometimes available to
help fund certain stations. These non-government
organisation want to reach the station with a large target
audience.
5. Volunteers
• Volunteers are very important to radio shows as they can
lower the cost. People can volunteer for many different
roles. Students apply to get work experience, others may
volunteer as they have a general interest in radio.
6. Events
• Some radio station hold events. These events are usually
sponsored and aim to get more people listening as well as
bringing in extra revenue to the station with merchandise
and tickets. To draw the listeners in some famous people
attend.
7. Sponsors
• Sponsorship is a method of advertising without selling. At
the beginning or end of a show, they will announce that it
is sponsored by a certain product. This announcement
does not go into detail about the product. This links the
sponsor and station together.
