Logo & material design for workshops held by Designplus, 2008 The team was set up for the first attempt of branding workshops hosted by Designplus. The first 7. Project Management prototype was so fuzzy that the planner and I formed the concept of the workshop and appearance Design style guide for Tokyo Disneyland, 2005 together through a number of discussions. In spite of the small budget, the materials and the venue are well organised keeping the same touch simply to deliver the concept of the workshops. The event ended This project initiated by my ideas. The style guide was developed for the Christmas event in Tokyo in success and is going to be a regular workshop from next year. Disney Resort. Based on the concept, tree ornaments, a craft artist was designated, and worked together. Each ornament stands for an attraction in the two Disney theme parks in Tokyo. As the handcrafted parts are highly stylized, my role was not to cross the line but bring out the artist’s character to idealise the concept. 3. Project Management+Design Co-author, book design, translation, coordination of the Japan version of Brigitte Borja’s book, Design Management, 2008-2009 8. Drawing+Design This is an over-year, big project. In the first phase, I had many meetings with the author of the English Logo design and drawing for the event at Tokyo Disney Resort, 2003 version. As the original book, even though the title of the book is DESIGN management, does not have supportive visuals and it does not help readers understand this highly theoretical book, at all, I picked up the points where diagrams should be made, and harmonised the theories into neat visuals. I got involved 9. Drawings in the translation to improve accuracy of the language. Also wrote an essay regarding the subject, and Practice of “the” Disney lines, 2003 worked for the hole book design, which are, too, designed to help readers grasp ideas of the book better. On the later phase, I worked as a coordinator between the author, Japanese professors and the publisher. Spend half a year at the Merchandise Department Design Group, at Tokyo Disney Resort, under the supervisions of the Disney Character Artists. 10. Drawings 4. The designers are required to know features of materials, printing methods and appropriateness for the occasion. For example, the colours used, the shapes taken are all designed to match the specifications such as budget, target and effectiveness. Especially, when the characters are used, designers have to work very carefully not to spoil their appearance in the mass- 11. Strategy+Design produced version due to the process taken. Visualisation of Design Thinking and strategies, 2008 I have been developing a business project aiming for eliminating packaging waste. The ground breaking article was published on Packaging Today, the European standard magazine for professionals. This break through is briefly explained by illustrations, which focus on a new life cycle of packaging and explain 5. Product Design+Quality Control why/how we can say good-by to packaging waste - the biggest thread in our 21st century. The skills for Souvenirs designs for Tokyo Disney Resort, 2004-2005 graphic design are well associated to strategic thinking. As a designer, I “design” not only visible shapes but intangible entity such as “thoughts”. Number of projects have been explored to tackle with problems that are difficult to be solved by traditional methods to provide a new perspective.
