Satanism by ellie fleming

  1. Satanism was founded in 1966 by Anton LaVey. Satanism involves the symbolic association with, and in some cases admiration, of Satan; or of other rebellious, liberating figures. It is an extremely old religion, argued to have been practiced before Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Satan in mythology around the world is considered a rebel. Figures such as the Greek Prometheus are said to exemplify the qualities of Satan, as the rebel who was proud. Satan is seen as the powerful individual who acts in terms of rational self-interests. There is a lot of stigma attached to this religion. Many believe that because the religion has much to do with Satan; that Satanists actually worship him and agree with his ways. This sociologically explains why many members prefer to not admit to their belief. There isn’t a church of Satan; it is more about the acceptance of religion within ones inner self, though some people may gather with those who share the belief, as there have been cases of churches found practicing this religion. There are many different sub- religions of Satanism, such as Theistic Satanism, Luciferianism and Palladists, so it is not a broad belief. Most Satanists are also Atheists, meaning that they don’t believe in either God or Satan. They instead use religious symbolism of Satan to mock the way of Christianity, as they believe that Christianity is a plague upon humanity. It is Spiritual Satanists who believe in Satan as an actual being, as Christians would believe in God.Many Satanists consider themselves to be their own God, as they strive to take pride in their work and who they are. Satanism, in the eyes of a Satanist is said to hold three main objectives: selfempowerment, freedom and honour. It is said not to focus at all on race, gender or sexuality; it is said to only focus on improving a person using the three main objectives. In The Satanic Bible, Anton LaVey describes Satan as a motivating and balancing dark force in nature. Satan is also described as being the "Black Flame", which represents a person's own inner personality and desires.
