In October 2019 the White House hosted a Summit on America’s Bioeconomy. This Summit was the first gathering of US’s foremost bioeconomy experts which represents infrastructure, innovation, products, technology, and data derived from biologically-related processes and science that drive economic growth, improve public health, agricultural, and security benefits.
The Government understands that bioeconomy has a critical role in the Industries of the Future and turns to the bioeconomy as an Administration science and technology priority.
The Summit consisted of several discussions, keynote addresses, and panel sessions. The Summit concluded with a number of breakout sessions addressing such topics as how a bioeconomy can support broad national interests, key workforces challenges the American bioeconomy faces, Federal policy and regulation and others.
Key Takeaways from the Breakout Discussions:
• Build the bioeconomy workforce of the future.
• Promote and safeguard critical bioeconomy infrastructure and data.
• Leverage the entire U.S. innovation ecosystem.
• Identify regulatory opportunities and challenges.
Following this Bioeconomy Summit, The White House will continue to seek government and non-government perspectives on maintaining and strengthening U.S. leadership in the bioeconomy and looks forward to continued engagement in the critical field of sustainability.
