How?
6. Change – the story so far
Product
¢ Competition – initially a Facebook type product – did the world
need another?
¢ Inspired by an idea in a bar – business pivoted to reflect real life –
how to meet new people
Focus of Product Delivery
¢ In 2010 we launched our product on mobile, in July 2013,
mobile overtook web and now 85% registrations on mobile
¢ How? By re-evaluating the product to move it to mobile
Adding other offerings
¢ Hot or Not re-launched by Badoo, having been
created over a decade ago
¢ More to come
Agility
¢ Being lean and agile enough to pivot and ‘get things done’
Employees
¢ Teams make success happen-learning who suited our
environment
7. Knowing what not to change
Product
¢ Monetisaton (our paying users are increasing by 26% year on year –
currently 1.3m monthly paying users). Result? A highly profitable
company, which over last 3 years has had revenues of at least $100m
¢ Growth – What factors helped us grow- virality, word of mouth (not
expensive PR campaigns)
¢ Localisation – 46 languages, local knowledge (including billing
platforms in over 200 countries) = Power
Founder
¢ Serial entrepreneur – established success
8. What still needs to change?
Awareness
Perception
Eliminating any last stigma surrounding
meeting new people
We don’t want to be the best kept secret in
tech. And we’re working on more exciting
projects
9. What still needs to change
for tech generally?
Legislation driving
innovation not slowing it
More women
More noise about
the European tech scene
