- Welcome to the Patient Online Session My name is … I would like to give you a bit of a background about the Patient Online Programme, then we will hear from a patient and from a GP. After that we will have an opportunity to discuss your own experiences and what you would like to see happening in this space.

- The Patient Online Programme has three elements: Booking (and of course amending or cancelling) appointments Ordering of repeat prescriptions Viewing of your own general practice medical records These are services general practices are being asked to offer to all their patients that wish to use them. In the future there may be other services that we’ll start introducing, such as e-consultation (and we’ll talk about it on some of your tables later)

- So, where are we now in terms of what practices offer? …. Go through the figures on the slide … As you can see, there has been a good increase in the number of people registered with practices offering online booking and ordering of repeat prescriptions. They are now at 86 and 80%. And, virtually all practices have systems that allow them to do this. When we then look at online access to records, it is very different. About 76% of general practices have the capability to switch this on. Just over 3% of practices actually offer this service. We have lots of work to do here. Additional information: NB: The percentage of practices given in the SoS-SST slide set is the percentage of practices that have the functionality enabled regardless of whether they have made it available to patients or not. It is therefore clearer to say: Appointments: 98.9% of GP Practices have functionality that offers online appointments. 79% of practices have made this functionality available to patients, 85.7% patients are registered with these practices Prescriptions: 98.8% of GP Practices have functionality that offers online appointments. 73.4% of practices have made this functionality available to patients, 80.2% patients are registered with these practices Medical Records: 82.5% of GP Practices have functionality that offers online appointments. 2.9% of practices have made this functionality available to patients, 3.5% patients are registered with these practices
- What are we doing to make sure that everybody can get the online services they want? We are working with suppliers who during this year will be releasing applications that will make it easier for patients to use the online services. Some of them already offer this and there are also third party apps that people will be able to use. We are supporting general practices by developing guidance and learning materials, so they can be confident in how they offer this. We are working with you at events like this to make sure that what we do makes a difference to you. And we are looking to you to help us promote it, give us feedback, help us develop it.
- Online services are a part of our drive to help people take more control of their own health and build good relationships with the professionals that we work with and who look after us.
