2. Noun är det engelska ordet för substantiv.
Ett substantiv förklaras enklast som ord som
beskriver saker: katt, kaffe, kvinna, karriär.
Ett substantiv kan man sätta en, ett eller flera
framför.
Singular betyder ental och plural betyder flera.
Ett substantiv kan stå i obestämd form: en
katt/katter, eller bestämd form: katten/katterna

4. Pengar förändrar allt.
Money changes everything.
Money is always in the singular.

5. Polisen har ofta rätt.
The police are often right.
En polis kom till skolan
A police officer came to school.
Police are always in the plural. ”En polis” is a
police officer or something like that.

6. En kvinna pratar med två kvinnor.
A woman is talking to two women.
En man pratar med två män.
A man is speaking to two men.
Woman is the singular, in the plural it’s women.
The same with man – men.

7. Mina möbler är vackra.
My furniture is pretty.
Den här möbeln är vacker.
This piece of furniture is pretty.
Furniture means ”möbler” like ”möblemang”. It’s
always in the singular. To say ”en möbel” you
need to insert ”a piece of” or something similar.
The grammatical term is ”uncountable noun”

8. Uncountable nouns are:
• Always in the singular
• Can’t be preceded by a or an.
• Becomes countable when used with
countable words, often a piece of.

9. Folk är dumma.
People are stupid.
People are always in the plural.

10. Jag behöver ett råd.
I need a piece of advice.
Mitt råd är att lyssna.
My advice is to listen.
Advice is just like furniture, an uncountable
noun.

11. Politik är tråkigt.
Poilitics is boring.
The word looks like it’s in the plural but is actually
in the singular! Other words that function like this
is mathematics, physics, social studies to name
a few.

12. Den här saxen är ful.
These scissors are ugly.
Jag behöver en sax.
I need a pair of scissors.
”Scissors” is always in the plural, because it has
two ”legs”. If you’re asking for ”en sax” it’s
called a pair of scissors.

13. Mina byxor är rosa.
My pants are pink.
Jag behöver nya byxor.
I need a new pair of trousers.
”Pants” is also always in the plural, just like
scissors. In Swedish we often say ”ett par
byxor”.
