2. Chris McCandless, the Outdoorsman?
• Chris McCandless was an outdoorsman because he completed several
lengthy wilderness hiking trips. He spent two years testing his ideology
throughout the western United States before entering the wilds of Alaska
unprepared and starving to death.
• He walked a canoe down a portion of the Colorado River before
hitchhiking to Alaska, in April 1992.
• McCandless was last seen alive at the head of the Stampede Trail on April
28, 1992, by a local electrician named Jim Gallien.

• After high school, Chris was offered a job working in Annandale, but he
declined, instead driving across the country before leaving for Emory
University in Atlanta.
• So, there is no doubt that Chris was outdoorsman.

5. Chris McCandless, the Idiot?
• Gallien repeatedly tried to persuade him to defer the trip to Anchorage, and buy
him equipment and supplies, but Chris ignored Gallien's persistent warnings and
refused his offers of assistance.
• Alaskan Park Ranger Peter Christian said, “When you consider Chris from my
perspective, you quickly see that what he did wasn't even particularly daring, just
stupid, tragic, and inconsiderate. First off, he spent very little time learning how to
actually live in the wild. He arrived at the Stampede Trail without even a map of the
area. If he had a good map he could have walked out of his predicament. Chris
committed suicide.” (George Mason University, Wikipedia)

• After I read the above reviews and the context in the book, I believe that
Christ was an idiot.
