3. Nevruz means New Day and is celebrated in
Asia whereTurkish and Persian is spoken

4. A big fire is made and people dance around it.

5. The most important activity is to make
a wish and jump over the fire.

7. Hıdrellez, is one of the seasonal festivals of
all Turkish world.

8. Hıdrellez Festival is celebrated on May 6 in
Turkey. This day is meaning a first day of
spring.

9. InTurkey people believe that Hızır
has the God-given power of
working miracles.
He is the symbol of good amens
and good fortune.
Hızır is the symbol of spring, and the
new life…

10. People prepare beforehand for Hıdrellez celebrations
in villages and small towns and also in big cities.
These preparations concern house-cleaning, clean
clothing, and food and drink.

11. Before Hıdrellez Day, houses are cleaned,because
people think that Hızır will not visit houses that are
not clean. New clothes and shoes are purchased to
wear on Hıdrellez Day.

12. On Hıdrellez night purses are left open.Those who want a
house, a new car or a baby believe that Hızır will help them
obtain such things if they make a small model of what they
want. So they draw these small models under the rose plants.

13. People write their wishes on a piece of paper.

14. For recovering from illness people hang the
cloth pieces over the rose or tree branches

15. Those who want a house leave a small model
of a house, while those who want a baby
leave a small plastic or wool doll near a rose
bush,
Some people put a coin inside a red cloth and
then hang it on a rose branch. In the morning
this money is put into the wallet so that it will
bring abundance.

16. During this ceremony, songs about love, happiness,
hope, brotherhood, love for ones country and goodness
are sung by the people.

17. It is also believed that if you go out, have a picnic
and be around nature on this day, your winter days
won't be as hard. Most city people know this day
simply as a picnic day.

18. It is believed that jumping over fires brings
health and happiness

21. People believe that wishes made
on this night will come true. They
also believe that sick people will
become healthier and it will be the
end of bad luck and misfortunes.
There are also a lot of rituals that
people perform.

22. Hidrellez has been very
important in Anatolia for
centuries. It is said that
whatever you wish for that
night comes true!

23. APRIL 23
National Sovereignty and Childrens’ Day

25. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey was established
this day, and to commemorate the event, April 23 was
proclaimed a national holiday in 1921.

26. In addition to holding many domestic celebratory events
such as stadium performances, Turkey also houses
“International April 23 Children's Festival” , where groups
of children from other countries are invited to participate
in the festivities while staying at Turkish families' homes. In
some countries, Festivals are celebrated with children of
different nationalities.

28. May 19 is the anniversary of the day Atatürk
started the War of Independence. He dedicated
this day to theTurkish youth as they are the future
of the nation.

29. This day concerts, sports events, and activities
in stadiums are held by young people.

34. In children fest, children takes place of the President, Prime
Minister,and other ministers for a short time and they make a
symbolic speech

36. This celebration is one of the two greatest festivals in the
Muslim community around the world. The idea behind this
celebration is to sacrifice( sheep, camel or cow), to have peace
and to ask God forgiveness .
Festival of Sacrifices

37. People cut a sheep, goat, camel, cow etc.
Share the meat and food with the poor people.
This is also a major holiday for Muslims to visit and
give gifts to the children.
Wearing nice clothes (new clothes are preferable).
How we celebrate

38. WHAT TO EAT:
:
Meat is important to eat because this celebration is
about to sacrifice.

39.  Festival of Sacrifices is celebrated the 12th month
of dhul hija, of the Muslim calendar.
 The celebration starts in the morning and
continues for four days.
When we celebrate?

40. RAMADAN

41. The ninth month of Muslim calendar is
Ramadan.
During this month, Muslims fast from
sunshine to sunset.
(to fast: not to eat or drink anything)

42. During this months, the people come together
for dinner with their family and friends.

43. Some of the rich people or foundations
organizes dinner for poor people.

44. Ramadan feast (also known as the
Festival of Sweets) is celebrated at the
end of this month.

45. It’s a three-day festival.
On the first day everyone gets up early, wears their
best clothes.
They visit their relatives and neighbours starting from
elder ones.

46. They give and take gifts and offer sweets,chocolates
and baklava to each other.

48. When a young man joins the army, there is
always a celebration…

49. because it’s an honour forTurkish
people to serve in the army

50. Asking for the girl’s hand in marriage.

51. When a young girl and boy decide to marry, the
family of the boy go to the house of the girl to ask
permission for the marriage. During this ceremony
only coffee is drunk and the girl put a lot of salt into
the boy’s coffee only as a joke.

funeral you cook and give meals for them
