This document provides an inductive Bible study on Romans 1:1-7. It follows 5 steps: urge, observe, interpret, empathize, and apply. The study examines key details in the passage, including that Paul wrote the letter to the Romans to provide grace and peace from God and Jesus Christ. It observes questions like who, what, when, where, why, and how. It interprets the context and does a chain of events analysis. The goal is for readers to empathize with the effort God made to secure grace and peace, and to apply the lesson by following Jesus' example of moral perfection.
3. ROMANS 1:1-7 (NEW KING JAMES VERSION)
“1Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle,
separated to the gospel of God 2which He promised before
through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, 3concerning His
Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who [a]was born of the seed of
David according to the flesh, 4and declared to be the Son of
God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the
resurrection from the dead. 5Through Him we have received
grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all
nations for His name, 6among whom you also are the called
of Jesus Christ;
7To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ.”

9. 5. HOW
How to receive grace
and peace from God
our Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ?
Obey the call of God our
Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ to believe
God our Father’s
declaration with the sign
of resurrection that the
human spirit of Jesus
overcame evil with good
from womb to tomb.

Whose decision is
God our Father
waiting for?
“… obedience to
the faith among
all nations…”
Romans 1:5
14. 1. CONTEXT
1. Audience: apostles and
lay saints in Rome
2. Purpose: they may have
more grace and peace
from God our Father
and Jesus Christ our
Lord
3. Text: since this passage
is the beginning of the
letter, the contextual
text is the rest of the
letter, especially the
passage immediately
followed
15. 2. COMPONENTS OF A WHOLE
The flesh come from
Mary, the
descendant of
King David and
the spirit of ethical
holiness are the
components of the
son of God Jesus
Christ our Lord.
16. 3. CAUSE AND EFFECT RELATIONSHIPS
1. The cause was that
God our Father was
love. The chain of
effect was that God our
Father loved Paul, gave
Paul grace and
apostleship. Rom. 1:7
2. The cause was that
Paul came to know that
the above chain of
effect and accepted
grace, peace, and
apostleship through the
Lord Jesus Christ.
Rom. 1:5&7
17. 4. CHAIN OF EVENTS
God loves and we need unaffordable peace
from breaking His law by sinning.
God promised that there will be triumph
over sin by a fellow human being come
from the seed of David to mend the law
perfectly.
The human being was Jesus and he
mended the law to pay for our sin debt.
God examined the payment and
declared it acceptable by resurrecting
Jesus from his death.
God called Paul to believe and spread
the good news of Jesus’ victory over the
challenge of our debts.
Paul accepted the call and became a
saint, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, an
apostle, expounding the good news of
victory, technically called the gospel of
God who was like a referee and a judge.
Paul wrote the epistle to explain to the
saints in Rome so that they can
understand why they can be in peace.
18. 5. COMPARE (USUALLY LEXICONS AND CONTEXT HELP)*
Did the son of God (tou
huiou Theou) mean God
the Son or someone
else?
The son of God here by the
context means the
human spirit of Jesus
was so perfectly
characterized by ethical
holiness as much as that
of God the Father, as a
son so physically
resemble his father.
19. 6. CONTRAST
The spirit of holiness
(pneuma hagiosynes)
was in contrast with the
Holy Spirit (pneuma to
hagion). The spirit of
holiness was a human
spirit that has a
beginning. The Holy
Spirit is a divine spirit
that has no beginning.
20. 7. COMPLIMENTARY
Grace
+ promise
+ document of the promise
+ faith in the promiser
+ fulfillment of the promise
+ claim the promise
+ reception of the promised
+ thanksgiving to the promiser
+ enjoying the promised
21. 8. CONVERGE (FOCUSING, HAVING A PURPOSE)
God our Father and
Jesus Christ our
Lord want to bless
you with grace
(free gifts) and
peace (wholeness)
internally and
externally.
Romans 1:7
23. I FEEL THAT …
How hard did
God our Father
work on securing
grace and peace
to us?
a) Not hard at all
b) Normally hard
c) Very hard
d) Hardest ever
24. CONVICTION?
Paul’s heart was so convicted
that Jesus Christ was the
Lord that he chose to be his
bondservant and accepted
his call to be an apostle
dedicated to spread the good
news of triumph of the human
Jesus overcoming evil with
good from womb to tomb.
God our Father knew this
triumph and declare his spirit
as morally holy as the Father
Himself and therefore
resurrected him from the
dead to declare him totally
met the requirement for the
Father to give grace to
sinners like all the rest of
humankind.
26. WHEREFORE
Do you believe God our
Father’s declaration
that the human spirit of
Jesus was perfectly
morally holy from
womb to tomb?
Romans 1:2
A. No, it is impossible.
B. Not yet, I need more
evidence.
C. Yes, I trust in God our
Father’s integrity of
keeping His promise.
27. THEREFORE
God the Father wanted
to declare that the
human Jesus was
able to overcome evil
with good from womb
to tomb. Therefore,
God the Father
resurrected the
triumphant human
Jesus from among all
the dead people.
28. THUS
Since you may
not understand
some part of
the passage,
thus I like to
open the floor
for questions.
29. SO
Jesus set his life goal
to be the perfect
saint morally inward
behaviors by his
spirit and outside
behaviors by his
flesh. So I follow
him and set the
same goal.
