Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: 1) construct sentences using the past participle, present participle and past participle 2) have a mastery level of not less than 75% II. Subject Matter Topic: Participles (Past, Present and Future): Regular Verbs References: Prentice Hall Literature pages 112-115 Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey Materials: Flashcards, Cartolina, Chalk, Picture, Flash Card III. Procedure Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity A. Preliminary Activities “Good morning class. Before we go on with our new lesson, let us pray first. Who would like to lead the prayer?” “Thank you. Class Monitor, please check the attendance” B. Statement of the Aims C. Motivation “I have a picture here posted on the board. Please read the sentences underneath. “What have you observed with the given sentences?” “Correct. These are example of participle. Do you have any idea what participle is?” (One student will volunteer to lead the prayer) Lisa danced yesterday. Lisa dances every day. Lisa will dance tomorrow. “The verb changes.” “A participle is a form of a verb that is used in a sentence to modify a noun, noun phrase, verb, or verb phrase, and thus plays a role similar to that of an adjective or adverb.”

A participle is a form of the verb that is used together with another verb to form certain tenses.” “There are three forms of participle; the past participle, the present participle and the past participle.” Discussion (In a one piece cartolina, the teacher will show the definition of participles with corresponding examples.) “Everybody please read.” “Now that you already have an idea what participle is and its form let’s take a look again at the example particularly on sentence number 1. The verb used is “danced”. This verb is in what form do you think? Is it in past, present or past participle?” “Correct. It is in the past form. How can you prove that the answer is correct?” “Excellent. You got the answer right. It is the present form. What about the second sentence. In what participial form is it?” “Correct. As for the third sentence it is in the future participle because it describes things that have yet to happen. IV. Generalization “A participle is a form of a verb that is used in a sentence to modify a noun, noun phrase, verb, or verb phrase, and thus plays a role similar to that of an adjective or adverb. The past participle describes things that have already happened. Past participles are generally formed by adding –ed to the base (The students will read the writings) “It is in the past participle” “It is because of the word ‘’yesterday’’ which gives a hint that the activity has already happened.” “ It is in the present participle”
  3. 3. form of the verb. The Present Participle is used to describe things that are happening right now or things that are continuous. It is formed by adding the suffix '-ing' to the base form of the verb. While the future tense describe things that are yet to happen. It uses the form will + the base form of the verb. Fixation of Skills (The teacher will use flash cards. The students will read the sentence and they will guess what participial form was used.) V. Evaluation Read the following sentences carefully. Determine whether the underlined verb used is in the past participle, present participle, or future participle. 1. Ainah Grace cried last night. 2. Charmaine cooks lunch. 3. Roda attended the seminar. 4. Anna Mae will pass her project tomorrow. 5. Angel shouted at Jennalyne. 6. The third year students gathered at the auditorium. 7. I will give you my cellphone as a gift on your graduation day. 8. Nezza wears glasses. 9. Mikay composed a poem for her crush. 10. Joahanna eats hearthily. VI. Assignment Compose five sentences using any of the three basic participial forms and identify the form used.
