As a first generation university graduate, Dr. Kirby understands the issues and opportunities students deal with when they are the first attending university in their families. As a result of being marginalised and witnessing students and staff being marginalised over the last 15 years in public education, Dr. Kirby's passion in research is grounded in the desire for educational equity for all. Dr. Kirby is a former classroom teacher in the US (MS, NY, VA), having taught years 6-11 in both public schools and in institutional settings (juvenile detention centres and a prison for young men).
