Editor's Notes

  1. To be a winner, one of the most important things you should be able to do is understand what others as well as yourself will respond emotionally with. Your opportunity Radar can help you as well. Winner’s can channel their emotions based on the given situation. Winners can also keep a balance between the two opposites, pleasure and displeasure.
  2. Your “Opportunity Radar” allows you to put yourself in the right place and the right time to latch on to possibilities. This ability can help you with emotional balance by analyzing the situation and weighing your possible responses
  3. Emotions are represented on a sliding scale in which you are pleased on one side, and displeased on the other radical.
  4. Your psychological response is connected to your physical response, including both voluntary and involuntary actions. Here are some examples that are easily depicted by common figurative language. Nervous is considered as an emotion with butterflies in your stomach. Excited is described as a racing heart, and fear is a knot in your gut.
  5. This means that your feelings are transmitted into your physical reactions.
  6. Emotion is created through a network of brain structures. The main ones are the Anterior Cingulate Cortex, Orbital Frontal Regions of the Prefrontal Cortex, Insula, and the Amyglanda. The Amyglanda is commonly misinterpreted as the only site of Emotional creation, but is a crucial area.
  7. To get better at interpreting and purveying emotions, you need to practice. There are three fundamental concepts to know, which are recognizing emotions, predicting emotional response, and adjusting your emotions. The more you understand and practice these, the better you will get at controlling your emotions.
  8. We rely on out own unique point of view instead of the actual emotions that are occurring.
  9. There are many ways for you to be able to manage your emotions. One of the ways is Attentional Deployment , which means you direct your attention away from a too-intense emotional event. Bookending is another way, where you break your tasks down, and only think of accomplishing one thing. You can make a new bookend after you finish the first task. You also have the option of “Reframing” which is working through your obstacles and viewing them as a challenge and an area that you can improve upon, rather than seeing them as issues. If all else fails, take a deep breath.
  10. Gaining this ability can help you in many ways. After you start using your opportunity radar and fix all the kinks, no situation will be too hard to handle. If you accomplish emotional balance, you can better associate with others, and remember the details.
