• Hardware blade:
o 2 x dual-socket Oracle Linux servers.
o 24 Intel Xeon CPU X5675 cores.
o 512 GB RAM.
o 18 TB raw disks, extendable upto 36 TB
o 292 GB solid state storage.

o Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.8 (pre-installed).
o Appliance Kit.
o Oracle Database 11g EE with RAC, RAC one node or
single database instance.
o Oracle Grid Infrastructure.

10. The ODA_BASE
• Before continue with WLS you need to get the
ODA_BASE template which is:
• A virtualized platform which consists of:
• An ODA Virtualized Image - Oracle VM server especially for ODA
• An ODA Base Domain - A “VM domain” within ODA virtualized
image.
• To deploy and scale Oracle databases.
• The ODA Appliance Manager.
• ODA Guest domains.

DB RAC and WLS.

• Oracle WebLogic configurator to automate installation
of Weblogic on ODA.
• WebLogic configurator only installs in cluster mode
• Configurator installs also OTD (Oracle Traffic
Director)
• WLS and OTD image content:

• trafficdirector.img
• weblogic.img
• u01.img
• vm.cfg

• 1 WLS cluster node on 6VMs which
contains:
o1 VM for WLS AdminServer.
o2 VMs (1 / node) for WLS managed
servers.
o1 VM for OTD admin.
o2 VMs (1 / compute node)
for OTD Loadbalance.

21. Some Facts
• Configurator also creates a database for WLS
on ODA_BASE.
• Currently there are 2 versions, 2.5 and 2.6
• Each VM gets at least 2VCPU
• A total of 12VCPU (6Cores)
for minimum installation

22. What ‘s in a WLS ODA package?
• Available is Oracle® Database Appliance Kit for
WebLogic Server which contains:
• OVM template with Oracle Enterprise Linux
• WebLogic EE or Suite (10.3.6 or 12.1.1)
• WebLogic Server EE packaging updated to include ODA
entitlements
• WebLogic Software Kit for ODA (2.5 or 2.6)
• Integration software
• To configure WLS on ODA
• Oracle Traffic Director 11.1.1.7

23. A deeper dive…
• A simple topology consists of:
• One OTD Admin Node.
• Two OTD Loadbalance Nodes.
• One WLS AdminServer Node.
• Two or more WLS Managed Server Nodes in one
Cluster
• All using internal and external NIC’s
• For connecting to Interconnect RAC
• WLS Admin and MS traffic
• OTD Admin traffic

• First, plugin the X3-2 hardware into your DC.

• Install ODA Virtual Appliance Software for Grid
and RAC services.
• Next you need to transfer the WLS ODA
packages onto the ODA hardware.

• WLS VM image files.
• OTD VM images files.
• WLS and OTD config files.

• Transfer it to a staging directory.
• After unpacking the software, you can configure
within 10-20 minutes.
• Configurations 2, 4 or 8 managed servers.
• One cluster; after domain is created no more
managed servers can be added.

• After setup, it can be treated as a common
environment… however there are some
restrictions!

34. WebLogic ODA Administration
• Be careful with changes on:
• WebLogic Domain Name.
• Expanding Domain ( Cluster, Managed Servers).
• Node Manager.
• JDBC.

35. WebLogic ODA Administration
• Why?
• ODA relies on parameters given in during setup.
• Technically you can delete and add VM Servers using
<oakcli> commands, however no support on it.
• Or using the conventional way with the standard
tooling
• Create extra databases using oakcli create database…

• For keystores I would recommend changes (comes
with demo certificates(!))
• So generally: your initial setup is your
final!

• WebLogic Scripting Tool.
• Oracle Traffic Director:
• OTD admin console.
• CLI tadm command line.
• For both Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.
• VM template management:

• Was launched very quietly during OOW 2011.
• Is a software based Load Balancer.
• Based on Sun’s IPlanet.
• Originally meant to run as Virtual Appliances for
ExaLogic.
• On Exa running internally on Infiniband.

• Software loadbalancing through layer 7,
application layer.
• Now shipped and licensed with ODA as the “ All
in the box” solution.
• Is configured during setup (Active/Passive).
• Integration possible with Apache.

and stop.
• Further configuration can be done through console.
