The do’s and don’ts of presentations

  1. 1. WHY DOES ONE PRESENT? •To share thoughts. •To influence.
  2. 2. MAIN OBJECTIVE •Connect with the audience
  3. 3. DO’S What to do during presentations?
  4. 4. FONT
  5. 5. FONT FACE Dos • Use clear fonts such as Arial, times new roman. • Use uniform font faces for headings/ titles through out the presentation. Don't • Use over-decorative fonts such as old English text because they are not readable
  6. 6. FONT SIZE DO’S • Use sizes between 36 and 44 for Headings/Titles. • Use sizes between 28 and 32 for Main points. • Use sizes between 22 and 26 for Sub points. • Importantly : they must be visible enough.
  7. 7. FONT DECORATION AND COLOR Dos • Use italics and bold to emphasize the text. • Use uniform color through out the presentation. • Use color that contrast the background. Don’t • Use decorations that are to visible and eye capturing. • Use colors that do not complement the background such as red on green.
  8. 8. BEFORE PRESENTATIONS Ready, steady………………
  9. 9. DO’S • Consolidate your opinions before making a presentation • Review your content • Use graphics that are relevant • Divide focuses on each slide & keep minimum text • Keep certain amount of consistency • Evaluate and make adjustments if necessary
  10. 10. WHAT IS YOUR STORY? • Have a good story at all times because good stories are simple and interesting to tell. • Have an emotional hook.
  11. 11. KEEP IT SHORT AND SWEET • Illustrate ideas through visuals • Don’t expect audience to read.
  12. 12. USE GOOD DESIGN AND CONTRAST AT ALL TIMES Use a polished template.
  13. 13. BUT DON’T: • Work on the visual part before adding the necessary text • Use too many pictures and graphics as it would drive away the attention from the main text • Use too many sentences, focus more on keywords • Read the material directly from the screen • Overuse animations.
  14. 14. PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND PRACTICE It Practice makes perfect, and once you are done, then your ready to make the presentation.
