Talking Points:
1. The Special Education Task Force met for the fifth time on January 30, 2013.
2. The Task Force determined that strategically implemented professional development across
the district is a critical component to the success of this Task Forces’s recommendations: how
to collaborate, accommodate, and develop a culture of respect.
3. How do the general education and special education teachers work together, with
curriculum, to provide benefit to all students?
4. The Task Force needs a clearer definition of the Learning Center Model. More research is
needed including visiting neighboring districts with Learning Center Models.
5. Continue to refine the SST process to be an integral part of the school. This refinement should
include understanding of the roles of participants, coherence across the district, and
enhancing communication between school and home through the SST process.
6. The next Special Education Task Force meeting will take place on February 6, 2013.
