2. Matt Cowan of Gallery of Kitchens has seen many a kitchen in his de-
signing life and things have been evolving throughout those years and
becoming more contemporary. He is the leading edge in the smart
kitchen of the future.
Matt’s kitchens have more technology in them like a 47 inch LED
TV flush mounted behind the stove wall. “This Internet TV can be
used to watch TV or as a computer monitor”. While the TV is also
connected to your security system, clients can monitor it within the
kitchen. As Matt said, “Many of my clients use this as a baby moni-
tor. This is also helpful while sitting at an island or for kids online as
you are monitoring there on line use , all while cooking in your new
kitchen or just cooking along with your favorite cooking show.” This

3. is a concept he designed many years ago and is by far the best thing in kitchen
technology.
In terms of ambiance, Gallery of Kitchens also uses sound and lighting to set
the mood of any occasion all controlled by the kitchen iPad or any Wireless
Device. There are many draw appliances in their kitchens and they are also us-
ing motorized drawers and doors in the kitchen and just a wave of your hand
and the door and drawer open. Appliances have also been reengineered to be
totally hidden. “On many jobs we have done we have concealed the microwave
and double ovens 100%.” Touch less faucets is also another convenient item as
they incorporate that with touch less cabinetry.
The countertops that get the most interest from Gallery of Kitchens are thick
plate steel or metal top, crackle porcelain tops from France. Also combined
sometimes is the TV countertop, which is a TV under the counter top and they
have a touch screen option.
Matt is custom cutting the wood flooring, and as he said “there are many ways
to cut wood like rift cut bias cut and radius cut. We even did a job that was
trunk cut as you could count the annual rings in the stumping in the floor.”
As Matt emphasized, “I am truly taking every step with my vast background
of design, construction theatrical special effects, audio/video electronics and
engineering and bringing it all together for my clients. I just love where I am
and what I am doing and setting the design trends for the kitchen and bath
Industry.”
Gallery of Kitchens is celebrating their 25th anniversary in their Westport, CT
showroom. They are on the cutting edge of design and are a full-service design
construction and build firm. Many of their clients hire them to do there full
scale renovations and or additions to their home.
