C3 “Promotion of data publication and data citation: As a common procedure in
research activity”
Masahito NOSÉ (Data Analysis Center for Geomagnetism and Space Magnetism,
Kyoto University)
Kazuhiro HAYASHI (National Institute of Science and Technology Policy)
• Activities related to “open science data”, such as, DOI-minting to research data,
data publication in data journal, and data citation in journal articles have just
started recently, but they are not yet widely recognized by researchers. This
session solicits contributions presenting actual practices and future plans how
to promote data publication and data citation as a new common sense or a
new culture in research.

• As one of data centers in “World Data System”,
we are collecting, preserving, and providing
geomagnetic field data recorded over the world.
• I have an interest in “doi-minting to scientific
data”, “data publication”, and “data citation”.
• I have been working with people in domestic
data centers, and created 18 doi’s for solar-
terrestrial physics data.
3. 科学データにDOIを付与するメリット/Benefit of DOI-minting to scientific database

For data providers/data centers
• Data providers can be evaluated by the
number of “data publication” and “data
citation” in the same way as the traditional
number of publication and citation.
• They can gain proper credit, professional
recognition, rewards for their work,
according to the results of data publication
and data citation.
Data citation is not yet widely
recognized by researchers.

• Publishers, researchers, data journal editor will give talks regarding incentive and publishers’
policy for data citation.
