extinct species
living on the
territory of
Bulgaria are listed
in the Red Book.
It includes three
volumes, the
second is about
endangered and
extinct animals.
5. 409 species of birds have been identified in
Bulgaria. Under protection are 327 of them, 100
are included in the Red Book. They are the black
storks, honey buzzards, eagles, corncrakes,
woodcocks, Stock Doves, white-backed
woodpeckers, black woodpeckers, lesser spotted
eagles, falcons , big hawks, Egyptian Vultures,
Short-toed Eagles, Saker Falcons, Lesser
Kestrels, ruddy shelduck and other.
6. 19 endangered mammals as martens, polecat
monk seals, brown bears, otters, wild cats,
some species of bats, and more are in the Red
Book.
7. The Red Book describes two amphibians (Alpine Triton and Syrian spade
foot) and 13 reptiles. Montpellier snakes, rat snakes, European glass
lizards, leopard snakes, Hermann's tortoises and others.
8. Endangered are also
some wild fish like
carps, goby
Caucasian, Danube
lamprey, Burbot,
Volga zander and
others.
