1. Chapter I
Introduction
This chapter presents the background of the study, statement of
the problem, significance of the study, and the scope and
delimitation in order to gain deeper understanding.
Background of the Study
The Social Media itself, a lot of people, especially the
students know what Social Media is. Social Media refers to a
computer-based technology that facilitate the sharing of ideas,
thoughts and information through virtual network and
communities. It allows us to stay connected with friends and
family. The utmost important of Social Media is that it helps in
staying in touch. Every user has an average of 7.6 social media
accounts, they spend around 142 minutes on social media every
single day, especially the teenagers. Nowadays a lot of student
find that Social Media is a helpful way in their studies, it
promotes self-directed learning, which prepares students to
search for answer and make decisions independently. When
reinforced in a classroom setting, this Social Media skill can be
guided and refined to produce better learning outcomes and
critical awareness of the students.
In addition, Social Media plays an important role in
every student’s life. It is often easier and more convenient to
access information, provide information and communicate via
Social Media. Tutors and students can be connected with each
other and can make a good used for the benefit of their learning
and teaching. The research is also to aim not just like the good
side of the Social Media in their Academic Performance but also
how social media could harm the Student’s Academic
Performance.
2. The researchers choose the study to show the readers the
importance of Social Media in the Students and their Academic
Performance and to determine what will be the possible impact
when the students pay more attention in social media rather than
their studies. The study is to conduct the advantages and
disadvantages of Social Media in the School Performance of the
Students.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the advantages and
disadvantages of Social Media in the Academic Performance of
the Students.
1. What is the profile of the respondents in term of:
1.1 Age; and
1.2 Gender
2. What happen if student spend too much time on Social
Media?
3. What are the possible impacts of Social Media in the
Student’s performance in school?
4. What are the negative effects of Social Media in
academic performance of the student?
Significance of the Study
To the Students. This research would be great help to
enlighten the students mind of how social media can be a good
way to help them but at the same time can harm them in their
Academic Performance in School.
To the Society. This study aims to guide the society to
be aware and understand how can this be helpful in a good way
in the Student’s Academic Performance in School.
3. To the Future Researcher. This research can be used as
a basis or reference for the future researcher who intended to
conduct further study about the pros and cons of Social Media
in the Academic Performance of Grade-11 Section Pantinople of
Cuyo National High School.
Scope and Delimitation
This study entitled “The Pros and Cons of Social Media
in the Academic Performance of the Student of Grade-11
Section Pantinople of Cuyo National High School” was
delimited in terms of topic, population, locale and period of the
study.
This was chosen by the researchers because they wanted
to know the advantages and disadvantages of Social Media in
the Academic Performance of the Grade-11 Section Pantinople.
The respondent of the study we’re the 17 Grade 11
Section Pantinople of Cuyo National High School.
This study was conducted inside the Cuyo National High
School. It started on November 7, 2022 and completed on
January 9, 2022.
