Season Program a success. With the tremendous support from the advertisers, the input
from the members, and the pictures from the photographers, we had the means to create
an outstanding program. I would especially like to thank Ricky Orlando for his countless
hours of help and Jim Browning for the outstanding photos, and most of all , my wife
Connie for tending to our son , proofreading, and taking care of everything else in my life
while I worked on this MRA season program. Mark Nudelman

Greetings MRA members and fans!
If you’re reading this you already know about one of the big things happening
in 2015! After a short vacation the season program has returned to the
MRA, and it’s a good thing too because we have a lot going on.
In this letter, last year, I discussed how we were poised to break
attendance records in 2014 following an extremely strong 2013. I’m
happy to report that it happened! 2014 marked one of the best years
in MRA history and we’re still accelerating. Our social media efforts
continue to be highly successful, we’re rolling out an awesome new
website, and our amazing sponsors continue to support us year after
year. In return the MRA delivers tremendous value to those businesses
by providing tickets to our events, passes to race the superstreet classes
for their customers, and visibility on the MRA E-Displays which are in
shops across the State. Please acknowledge this support by visiting the
shops that sponsor our classes and advertise with us.
2015 will be a year of changes and beginnings as well. Our weekends
have always started with an invocation and in 2015, after decades of
service, Chaplain Paul “Boots” Reimer will not be presiding over that
blessing at each round. Each race has a structured start as well and,
again, the person who has presided over that start for decades, Bob
Heaton, will be absent from our grid in 2015. I know I speak for the
club and community as a whole when I say “thank you” to Boots and
Bob for their years of service.
Beginnings are exciting, and in 2015 a new national motorcycle racing
series, Motoamerica, is on the verge of taking off. With a clear rules
package that aligns with other national series’, feeder classes, and people
who understand motorcycle competition at the helm, the series has
tremendous potential. You can catch these races on your TV, computer,
or even better yet, in person. With the tremendous talent in the MRA
don’t be surprised when you see your favorite MRA racers competing at
Motoamerica events representing our club on the national stage.
With all of this momentum 2015 is sure to be a season of great starts
and solid performances. I’ll see you on the grid!

11. A Sportsman, as described by
the Webster Dictionary, is a
man or woman who exhibits
qualities, especially esteemed
in those who engage in sports,
such as fairness, self control
and courtesy. The Sportsman
of the Year award is given
to a racer that continually
demonstrates that they are
a Sportsman, as well as one
who puts forth a tremendous
effort to help the club and
their fellow racers. While in the
past the recipient of this award
was chosen by the previous
years Sportsman, starting in
2004 the recipient is chosen
by the MRA board of directors.
The MRA would like to thank
Fay Myers for providing the
Sportsman of the Year trophy.

The Don Bruner Memorial
Award, was established in 2000
by Don’s parents, Doyne &
Darlene, to honor Don’s love of
motorcycle racing. Don won the
Heavyweight Supersport class
championship in 2000 despite
his on-track demise; ask Mike
Applehans about that story. This
award lets the racing world know
Don lived his life to its fullest by
doing what he loved, and that
the family harbors no ill feelings
for the sport. The Bruners
have been around motorcycles
for decades and proudly own
and boast the family run Apex
Motorsports in Colorado Springs.
The award is presented to the
Heavyweight Supersport class
champion and the second to last
race of each season is dedicated
to Don’s memory.

For many years the MRA has
been blessed with outstanding
novice racers who have proven
that the MRA is not a little
club, but rather one to be
reckoned with. In 1998, the
board of directors decided
to create an award that
recognized the "first season,
true novice racer" who had the
greatest improvement in skill
and speed over the course of
the year. This isn't necessarily
the racer who always wins, or
spends the most money. Rather
it is the one who truly commits
themselves to learning the craft
of motorcycle roadracing and,
as a result, improves their skill
by leaps and bounds in their
rookie season.

21. The Bob Heaton Distinguished
Service Award was introduced
in 2014 and is awarded each
year to a member or volunteer
who demonstrates exceptional
service to the club. Bob Heaton
was the club’s starter for
more than 20 years, enduring
weather of all types, a changing
leadership, and a variable staff.
Bob never missed a day of service
and additionally he served as
our official club meteorologist.
He kept our race weekends on
track despite the crazy mixture
of weather that Colorado can
produce. This award honors his
service and dedication; values
that live on as demonstrated by
each recipient.

25. The MRA Superstreet class is designed to allow street riders
a low cost way to experience the thrill of closed-course
motorcycle competition. Registration includes instruction,
dedicated track time, and a race all for only $100*. All that's
required is a track day-prepped street bike and appropriate
1
SuperStreet begins with a
classroom session. Here the
MRA's New Rider Director
teaches the class. 2
Next the students gather
on their bikes and get
ready to go out on the
track. 3
The instructors then lead small
groups around the track, so
that the riders can familiarize
themselves with the layout.
5
End of the day and the Super
Street race is here. Instructors
have set the grid and the starter
now signals that the race is
about to begin. ...and the grid is away!
4
Next session is the launching
and starting drills. Riders
line up in 2 rows to practice
starting against each other.

What is a
Corner Marshal?
If you have watched motorcycle
roadracing, you have probably
seen Corner Marshals. They are
the people dressed in white,
stationed around the track,
closely observing the race. Most
of the time Corner Marshals are
free to watch the racing action.
But when a rider crashes, they
spring into action. The flagger
displays warning flags, informing
racers of any hazard. Other
crew members assist the downed
rider(s) and clear the track. The
captain coordinates the crew and
keeps race control and medical
personnel informed via radio.
When the track is cleared, the
crew returns to their station and
resumes watching the action until
they are needed again. No prior
experience is necessary; training
will be provided. Attendance at
every event is not required.
