fisheries management advice
Fisheries management advice must be based on:
• Best scientific evidence – UN Fish Stocks Agreement
• Societal management objectives – CBD EBM principles (e.g MSY, precaution, ecosystem)
• Compiled & disseminate data – FAO CoC for Responsible Fisheries
• Transparent decision making process – FAO CoC for Responsible Fisheries
• Public access & participation in decision-making – Aarhus Convention UNECE

• Dialogue with managers about their challenges & expectations for advice
• Clarify management objectives & acceptable risk at start/through process
• Accessible documentation of framework & procedures
• Timely delivery of advice & underlying information
• Underlying data are findable, attributable, interoperable, reusable
• Use best available science
• Peer review of methods & approaches
• Advice is relevant, comprehensive, unambiguous, & consistent with knowledge
• Agreement of advice by consensus & independent of managers
• Impartial advice, no incentive to lobby for implementation
