About me
My name is Marielle Evertsz and I earned a Masters degree in Clinical Child
and Adolescent Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. My previous
work experience include high school teacher, social worker at Child
Protection Services and school counsellor at an international school. I
currently have a private practice as a Parenting Coach and Teen Counsellor.
My work includes individual and group counseling for teenagers, parent
coaching & support and parenting workshops.
I am passionate about coaching and guiding parents. Parenting is one of the
hardest jobs there is and I believe parents could use more guidance and support, not only from
experts but also from each other. Participating in parenting groups or workshops should be, in my
opinion, just as normal as taking prenatal classes. Being prepared for childbirth is important, but it’s
after childbirth that the really hard work starts.
I come across a lot of parents who are unnecessarily suffering in silence. Parents who worry about
their child’s behavior or self esteem, find themselves yelling at their children all the time, or struggle
with the whining, the tantrums and the backtalk and don’t know where to turn for help or are too
embarrassed to do so. It can be so useful and helpful to take a moment to stand back, listen to
other or new parenting strategies and to share your experiences with other parents.
My workshops are designed to 'get the conversation started'. It is about the group - not
the workshop or group leader - meaning I encourage interaction and participation from the group
themselves. Using humor, honesty and my professional and personal experience, my aim is to
empower parents and to offer them realistic strategies they can use right away.
