Parenting workshops by Marielle Evertsz, MSc
Workshops for parents of early childhood & primary school students (3 to10yr olds)
 Positive Parenting
Practical parenting advice basedon the principals of positive parenting. Learn to balance love
and discipline, firmness and kindness and learn the value of more action and less talk. With
positive parenting you teach your children responsibility by motivating them internally, while at
the same time building their self-esteem and making them feel secure.
 Positive Discipline: Stop the Yelling, the Nagging and the Lecturing
Learn how to get your kids to listen to you without you yelling, reminding, nagging or lecturing.
Based on positive parenting principles, this workshop will focus on respectful discipline methods
while at the same time building stronger relationships with your children. You will learn how to
tune in to the underlying meaning of your child’s behavior and how to respond in ways that help
your child learn to cope in positive, pro-social ways.
 Taming Those Temper Tantrums and Power Struggles
Are the ongoing power struggles with your child leave you exhausted or angry? Has your child
thrown a tantrum that made you want to have one too? This workshop focuses on
understanding the underlying issues of negative behaviors and the most effective methods of
diminishing their frequency.
 Supporting Your Child’s Learning
Homework – whose job is it? Homework do’s and don’ts. What is your child learning style? How
to motivate your child and homework hassle free tips
 Raising a Spirited Child
Some children are wired to be "more"— more intense, sensitive, perceptive, persistent, and more
uncomfortable with change than the average child. Understand your child’s temperament, learn
effective strategies to deal with tantrums and power struggles and plan for success.
 Handling Sibling Rivalry and Fights between siblings
If there are two or more children in a family there are bound to be times of intense bickering,
arguing, and fighting. Parents can get caught in the crossfire and not know how to help build a
loving relationship between siblings whose sole goal in life seems to be to torture each other.
Learn when to leave kids alone to work it out themselves and when and how to intervene.
 The Introverted and the Extroverted Child
Understanding whether your child is an introvert or extrovert and then aligning their activities
and social interactions accordingly can play a large role in reducing their stress and improving
their overall emotional well-being. In this workshop you will learn about the differences between
introverts and extroverts, how you can use this knowledge to enhance your relationship with
your child and how to nurture their own strengths. The workshop includes tips for introverted
parents who are raising extroverted children and for extroverted parents who are raising
introverted children.

 Understanding Your Teen: Blame their Brain
The emotional and social changes of adolescence can be confusing and difficult to understand
for both parent and teen. Much confusion and tension can be lessened when parents have a
better understanding about why their teen acts as he/she does. Understanding the teenage brain
means understanding a lot of teen behavior and their emotions. This workshop will give you
insight in the teenage brain and its effect on their behavior and their mental and emotional
world.
 Raising Teens: Letting Go and Holding On
Practical parenting advice basedon the principals of positive parenting and tied to recent
discoveries about teen brain development and human emotions. In this workshop you will
receive valuable strategies for managing your own emotions and tackling challenging situations
with your teen, all with a focus of maintaining a strong parent-teen relationship.
 Raising Teen Boys
Adolescent boys often seen as being angry, frustrated, argumentative and you can be lucky to
get just a 'grunt' from them at the dinner table. But, not all boys are the same and they may be
facing challenges that parents are no longer aware about. Boys typically find it difficult to
express or manage their emotions. Raising Teen Boys is an interactive workshop that explores
the challenges for parents, gives an insight into the world of boys in the 21st Century and to give
practical information and strategies that parents can take away. The aim is to help parents break
down barriers to communication, whilst helping to build resilient, happy and respectful young
men.
 Raising Teen Girls
Are you worried that your daughter seems to be growing up too fast? Would you like her to be
more cooperative or respectful? Do you wish you could help her to become more confident and
self-reliant? Are you concerned about peer pressure and friendship issues?
This workshop will provide parents with an insight into the world of girls in the 21st
century and
give parents strategies to effectively communicatewith their teen daughter and to foster strong
self esteem, a positive body image and confidence. We want our girls to strive to do their best
but is important that girls are not handicapped by unrealistic perfectionist tendencies and that
they learn to cope with and learn from failures.

About me
My name is Marielle Evertsz and I earned a Masters degree in Clinical Child
and Adolescent Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. My previous
work experience include high school teacher, social worker at Child
Protection Services and school counsellor at an international school. I
currently have a private practice as a Parenting Coach and Teen Counsellor.
My work includes individual and group counseling for teenagers, parent
coaching & support and parenting workshops.
I am passionate about coaching and guiding parents. Parenting is one of the
hardest jobs there is and I believe parents could use more guidance and support, not only from
experts but also from each other. Participating in parenting groups or workshops should be, in my
opinion, just as normal as taking prenatal classes. Being prepared for childbirth is important, but it’s
after childbirth that the really hard work starts.
I come across a lot of parents who are unnecessarily suffering in silence. Parents who worry about
their child’s behavior or self esteem, find themselves yelling at their children all the time, or struggle
with the whining, the tantrums and the backtalk and don’t know where to turn for help or are too
embarrassed to do so. It can be so useful and helpful to take a moment to stand back, listen to
other or new parenting strategies and to share your experiences with other parents.
My workshops are designed to 'get the conversation started'. It is about the group - not
the workshop or group leader - meaning I encourage interaction and participation from the group
themselves. Using humor, honesty and my professional and personal experience, my aim is to
empower parents and to offer them realistic strategies they can use right away.
