WHAT IS MARKETING?
• To understand digital marketing we must first understand
marketing in general!
• Marketing is defined as the “processes for creating,
communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have
value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.”
(Arens and Weigold, 8)
MARKETING MIX
• The process of marketing is broken down into the 4ps of the
marketing mix:
• Product: the development of the product you are tying to sell.
• Place: the location where the product will be distributed.
• Promotion: the sales and marketing plans to promote said
product.
• Price: the strategy behind the pricing of the product.
WHAT IS DIGITAL MARKETING?
• Digital marketing is the act of marketing, presented through
digital forms such as the internet, email, social media pages
and digital billboards.
SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
• Social media marketing is the act of marketing through social
media pages.
• The most popular social media pages are:
-Facebook
-Twitter
-Instagram
-Youtube
HOW TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA
MARKETING
1. Create a business page on a social media site of your
choosing.
2. Start interacting with your consumers through uploading
pictures, videos, texts, deals. Ensure the content is useful,
interesting and easy to follow.
3. Make your content easy to share – this allows your
information and brand to go viral.
4. Keep your page up to date, active and relevant.
BENEFITS OF SOCIAL MEDIA
MARKETING
• Increased brand awareness: with an internet presence consumers are
more likely to encounter your brand regardless of location.
• Increased brand loyalty: increased interaction with consumers leads
to brand loyalty.
• Higher conversion rates: more likely to persuade consumers to switch
from competitors through relevant, useful content.
• Better customer satisfaction: it is easier for businesses to respond to
customers and customers appreciate a personalized response
BENEFITS CONTINUED
• More inbound traffic: the bigger your digital presence the more
likely it is that potential consumers will come across your
business as opposed to your regular customers.
• Cost efficient: social media marketing is the most cost efficient
way to advertise as creating a profile is usually free and any
paid promotions done on the website are usually at a low cost.
DISADVANTAGES OF USING SOCIAL
MEDIA
• Time intensive: social media pages must be active and up to
date through constant attention.
• Feedback control: negative comments and feedback are visible
to other consumers and potential customers.
• Impractical followers: as there is no limit to who can join social
media, businesses can get followers that are not their target
market or that are too far to benefit the business.
CONCLUSION
• Overall the benefits of social media outweigh the
disadvantages. We live in a digital era where global boundaries
are being broken down by developments in technology. This
allows businesses to utilize and benefit from digital marketing
as opposed to traditional marketing. Living in such fast paced
times means that waiting for traditional marketing is not
feasible anymore because the information may have changed or
is no longer relevant by the time marketing is printed.

  • 6. HOW TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING 1. Create a business page on a social media site of your choosing. 2. Start interacting with your consumers through uploading pictures, videos, texts, deals. Ensure the content is useful, interesting and easy to follow. 3. Make your content easy to share – this allows your information and brand to go viral. 4. Keep your page up to date, active and relevant.

BENEFITS OF SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING • Increased brand awareness: with an internet presence consumers are more likely to encounter your brand regardless of location. • Increased brand loyalty: increased interaction with consumers leads to brand loyalty. • Higher conversion rates: more likely to persuade consumers to switch from competitors through relevant, useful content. • Better customer satisfaction: it is easier for businesses to respond to customers and customers appreciate a personalized response

DISADVANTAGES OF USING SOCIAL MEDIA • Time intensive: social media pages must be active and up to date through constant attention. • Feedback control: negative comments and feedback are visible to other consumers and potential customers. • Impractical followers: as there is no limit to who can join social media, businesses can get followers that are not their target market or that are too far to benefit the business.
  • 10. CONCLUSION • Overall the benefits of social media outweigh the disadvantages. We live in a digital era where global boundaries are being broken down by developments in technology. This allows businesses to utilize and benefit from digital marketing as opposed to traditional marketing. Living in such fast paced times means that waiting for traditional marketing is not feasible anymore because the information may have changed or is no longer relevant by the time marketing is printed.
