Basic Concept
1. Each process has a supermarket which holds the product it produces.
2. Replenishment of the supermarket is the basic objective
3. Parts are delivered between processes using a Kanban signal
4. Shipment to the Customer generates a delivery and production requirement
5. Only one department is scheduled - Pacemaker

There are two types of Kanban Production Scheduling Boards
 “The Big Picture Board” – Kanban Board
 To schedule production for a large department or the whole factory
 To show status of all Kanbans in production
 To show inventory levels, shortages, issues and urgencies
 Located in a central place
 Individual Process or a Line Scheduling Boards
 To show a production schedule for individual work areas, work cells, etc …
 To show production sequence and quantities
 Located near individual machines or operations
