  1. 1. Google Project FI Presentation by Manish Bhan CSE 7th sem
  2. 2. CONTENTS • What is Project-Fi ? • Look at Project-Fi • History • Why is it required? • Working • Advantages • Disadvantages • Future Prospects
  3. 3. Project Fi owned by Google, is providing wireless phone and data services using Wi-Fi and cellular networks at affordable prices. Project Fi is a program to deliver a fast, easy wireless experience in close partnership with leading carriers, hardware makers, and our users. What is Project Fi?
  4. 4. Fi device detecting the best network in networks Auto-switching network between wi-fi and cellular network
  5. 5. Using Project FI your phone will intelligently switch between various networks giving you best network. Using wi-fi to make calls and send texts whenever available. Project Fi is focused on simplified billing. estimating how much data you'll use. Example You pay $20 per month for unlimited talk and texting What is Project Fi? (cont.)
  6. 6. Better look at Project-FI
  7. 7. History • Project fi was launched on 22 April 2015. • Top mobile networks in the U.S.—Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S.Cellular partnered with Google to launch it. • Sundar Pichai (CEO Google) said at Barcelona conference 2015 the company was preparing to experiment with mobile networks. • So Google’s service could pressure wireless providers to further lower prices.
  8. 8. History Above: Google director of product management Sabrina Ellis announces that the Nexus 5X and 6P will support Project Fi at a press event in San Francisco on September 29,2015.
  9. 9.  Access to multiple 4G networks  Connect to best Wi-Fi  Never pay for unused data  Affordable Pricing Why Project Fi is required? Easy access to 4G Networks via auto-connecting to wi-fi’s or cellular 4G networks
  10. 10. Why Project-Fi is required (cont.)? Traditionally, phones only connect to one network’s towers. With Project Fi, your phone can access the best of multiple 4G networks so you can connect to more towers and get fast speed in more places. There are lots of Wi-Fi hotspots out there but not all are of high-quality. This technology helps keep your speed high and your data bill low. Your data is secured when connected to open Wi-Fi hotspots.
  11. 11. Why Project-Fi is required (cont.)? It's hard to predict your data usage when it changes month to month. One month you're streaming live sports, the next you're mostly just checking email. so you only pay for what you use.
  12. 12. Why Project-Fi is required (cont.)? Project Fi is cheap. Pay one rate for high speed international data around the world. In 135+ destinations, data usage costs the same per GB as it does in the US. The best thing is, If you pay for 3GB and use just 2.2GB, $8 goes back to you. While network switching, calls continue uninterrupted as you move from Wi-Fi to cellular or vice-versa. (Google uses Hangouts for this.)
  13. 13. Project Fi works with a SIM card—authenticate you on T-mobile, Sprint and U.S cellular networks. Hence, switching between them on the fly. You get the power of three mobile networks, plus Wi-Fi, in a single SIM Working
  14. 14. Extra software called a "Wi-Fi Assistant" will automatically connect your phone to open Wi- Fi access points when you're out of the house, reducing your data usage without any intervention on your part. Working (cont.)
  15. 15. Project FI being on initial stages, Google providing data & voice services on latest Google Nexus phones. Data-only service on various devices like samsung galaxy considering the network in regions. Just using Hangouts app, user can forward phone calls to your fi number, as well as view voicemails, make calls, send texts and access web. Working (cont.)
  16. 16. Working (cont.)
  17. 17.  One number to chat across networks and devices  Calls and texts over Wi-Fi for more coverage  Wherever you're on Wi-Fi—whether in your home, your favorite coffee shop or your Batcave—you can talk and text like you normally do. Calls transition seamlessly between Wi-Fi and cell networks  Use your phone number with tablets and laptops too  Talk, text, and check voicemail on the screen nearest you, get refunded for the data you don't use. Advantages
  18. 18.  Need specially equipped phone to support this technology.  Currently ties-up with sprint and T-mobile , so how they assure connectivity in other area will be a issue.  Sign-ups are limited to invite system.  Available only in few countries currently, example USA.  Currently in beta stage. Disadvantages
  19. 19.  If you start a call over Wi-Fi and walk outside, Project Fi detects when your signal becomes weak and seamlessly moves your call over to a cell network to keep the conversation going. So, auto-switching to best network.  Connect any device to your number—it doesn't matter what device they're using. Multi-device support.  Made for minimum billing and best multimedia access. Applications
  20. 20.  Ability to reshape the future of mobile communication.  Will create competition for other operators being consumer centric  Google has it’s own flagship of nexus smartphones to make it popular.  Perfect match for future technologies like 4G, 5G. Future Prospects
