Things go through intentional change over time, because the experience of the present
generates reasons to examine whether we can influence things differently to obtain
different outcomes in the future. Achieved “difference” ranges across a wide spectrum
of Tolerance to Ambition, and of Less to More. The common vocabulary for this
intentional activity includes creation, work, business and industry as we move
intellectually from the local and specific to the global and general.

The easiest way to understand the
relationships and meanings of creation,
work, business and industry is to
understand the difference between
what is there when any one of them is
present, versus what is not there when
any one of them is absent.
This differential definition yields a
hierarchy of activity showing higher
levels intentionally exploiting or
building on lower levels.

WORK

LABOR Creative activity generates something
that wasn’t there before. Whatever that
result is, it continues to exist only
because it meets some criteria of
acceptance. It may or may not ever be
done again, which in no way diminishes
what creation is.
The transformation of Creation to Work
is essentially about deciding to do
creation on a recurring basis, usually for
a targeted repeating result.

ORGANIZATIONLABOR
The transformation of Work to Business
occurs due to a decision to generate
economic compensation, which is
regulated at least for subsidizing the
consumption of resources by
production.
Business becomes Industry when the
distribution of work for the type of
business is intentionally arranged for
continuous operation at large scale.

The easiest way to understand the
current versus future iterations of those
activities is to recognize what key factor
of each type of activity in the hierarchy
is most subject to being changed by
environment, culture or automation.
Not only can each activity type change
independently, but of course the
relationship of different types to each
other consequently becomes a variable
factor as well.

A wide range of factors are
independently variable attributes
of the current conditions
surrounding activities.
Typically we think of their
occurrence in terms of whether
they are relatively passive or
active in their affect on change.
They occur as potential inhibitors,
prerequisites, catalysts, or causes
affecting the intentionality of
change. Numerous forces or
events can change these factors
and, therefore, their influence.

The primary issue at hand is whether we are able to intentionally
engineer benefit in a progressive and sustainable way
for all those who work, not for some at the expense of others.

Archestra research is done from the perspective of strategy and architecture.
With all subject matter and topics, the purpose of the notes is analytic, primarily to:
* explore, expose and model why things are
included, excluded, or can happen
in given ways and/or to certain effects.
* comment on, and navigate between,
motives and potentials that predetermine
Decisions about, and shapings of, the observed activity.
