Counterfeit is a problem of product security. A counterfeit product is an imitation which infringes upon a production monopoly held by either a state or corporation. Infringing products are being produced and consumed in virtually all economies. Counterfeiters and pirates target products where profit margins are high, taking into account the risks of detection, the potential penalties, the size of the markets that could be exploited and the technological and logistical challenges in producing and distributing products. Pharma duplication remains the biggest area of concern as it is facing the highest level of threat and the consumer of pharmaceuticals products are the worst sufferers.
