Egyptian Fashion has amazing dressing sense and is not oldfashioned even today. A lot can be adapted from the old civilization. Designs today can be motivated by their attire.

2. EGYPTIAN LIFESTYLE
• Among the great civilization of the past, Egypt opens the first record of costumes. The ancient records tell us the
costumes of the rich and the poor. Egyptians had a belief that life existed after death. That is why they buried body with
necessary things used during the person’s lifetime. These buries and preserved bodies were called the mummies and
were put away in the pyramids.
4. LOIN CLOTH
Shaped and worn like a diapers ,
loins cloth could be the sole
garment of the lower class men or
under garments for higher class
men.
5. SCHENTIS
• A rectangular piece of cloth
wrapped around the hips.
• Earlier made of leather , but soon
linen became the preferred fabric ,as
it was light fabric and comfortable in
hot weather
6. UPPER BODY
COVERINGS
ANIMAL SKIN
• The skin of leopard or lion fastened across
the shoulders of men. In the later periods, fabric
replaced skins for general garment construction
and wearing animal skin was reserved for the
most powerful element of the society: kings and
priests
8. CAPE LIKE GARMENT
• In the middle and new kingdoms this consisted
of a short fabric cape, fastening at center front ,
the length of which could range from short
enough to expose the midriff and long enough
to be tucked into the skirt.
10. Paintings often show on skirts on lower class women at slaves and dancing
girls are also depicted with a small clothes strip the genitals and held up
with a narrow waistband.

The most common garment for
women of all classes, the
sheath dress was closely fitted
and appears to have been a
tube of fabric held in place by
one or two straps.
12. KALASIRIS
A tunic or Kalasiris is usually seen on
women of lower station , such as
musicians , rather than on upper class
women.
14. MILITARY COSTUME
• The ordinary foot soldier of
ancient Egypt wore a short skirt
with triangular panel.
• A helmet made of padded
leather, covered the head.
• A sleeveless armored corselet,
this garment covered the chest.
• Also carried weapons and a
shield.
• Many soldiers are depicted as
barefooted , others are shown in
sandals.

wore the costumes
typical of his era plus
the special badge of
his rank, a special
crown called the blue
war crown and a
false beard.

• Both men and women decorated there eyes,
skin and lips.
• Red ochre pigment was used to color lips.
• Green and black were used to paint eye
• Finger and toe nails were polished.
• Henna as a hair dye.
• Scented ointments were applied to body.
19. HEADGEARS AND
HAIRSTYLES
• WIGS: It became the custom to shave or
clip the hair close to the scalp and to wear
wigs.
• HEADCLOTH: the head cloth was in use as
a headdress. The head cloth completely
envelop the wig.
