3. “at the beginning of something”
o “watching YouTube, I feel like the first
cinema audiences must have felt…
o …when I look at these clips, I sense I am

o transported (video is compressed and thus
small: on laptop, over the internet) and
o displayed (more DVDs and videobeamers in
classrooms, videoplayers on all PCs, easy
embedding in web and in learning platforms)
“video is now being used increasingly on all
levels and all forms of education and
training: primary and secondary, HFE,
lifelong learning and in company training”
(Mathy Vanbuel, Nov 2007)
12. a shared pedagogical vision…
“only when video and audio are
routine components of education
and online learning will we have
an educational environment that
reflects the media-rich world in
which our learners now live”
13. what next?
o “nobody seems quite sure what to do
with the possibilities of the new
media, or even what the new
possibilities are. But somewhere out
there are new ways of telling dramatic
stories, new ways of viewing ourselves
as human beings. Well I’m up for it. I’m
excited. I want to experiment with the
possibilities.”
(Mark Ravenhill, The Guardian UK, 26/11/07)
