  1. 1. Lesson plan in Voice (Active and Passive) I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson students should be able to: 1. Identify the difference between active and passive voice. 2. Define the used of active and passive voice. 3. Construct a sentence using active and passive voice. II. Subject Matter: A. Topic: Voice (Active and Passive) B. References: Communication Arts I by Myrna Oruga Medrano C. Materials: Handouts, Notebooks, Ball pens, White board, Marker III. Procedure: A. Learning Activities Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity “Good morning class…” “Good morning Ma’am!” “Let us pray first…” (One student will lead the prayer) (Checking of Attendance) (Students will tell who’s absent for the day) “So, are you ready to discuss our new topic for today?” “Yes Ma’am!” “That’s good, so let’s begin this with an activity! Are you ready?” “Yes Ma’am!” IV. Motivation B. Activity: The teacher will give the students a work sheet of paper wherein, the students will going to identify if the given sentences are in an active voice or passive voice. They will come up with the following sentences: 1. A song was sung by Ana. 2. Ben runs one kilometer every morning. 3. Last summer’s trip to Singapore was enjoyed by the whole class. 4. Arianna was appalled by the latest turn of events. 5. Dolphins can be trained to jump through hoops. Discussion Teacher Students Presentation (Students will give their answers)
  2. 2. “Very good! I am pleased you were able to finish the task given to you. Now let’s discuss your answers. Anybody who can tell me what he/she notices with the following sentences?” “Very well observation! Now, let me introduce you the Active and Passive Voice. Would someone read the meaning of Active voice?” (Student will volunteer to read the first sentence: “A verb is said to be in active voice when its subject acts or when the emphasis is on the doer or the subject.” “Thank you, let’s take a look at the sentence number 2. This one is an active voice. Could any one of you can tell me the reason why it’s classified as active voice?” (Student answers: Ma’am, because its subject which is Ben shows acts and he is the doer who acts.” “Very well said, Now can somebody give me an example of an active voice?” (Students answer) “Nice answers! Now let’s talk about the other voice. Would someone read the definition written on the board?” (Student will volunteer to read the first sentence: “A verb is in passive voice when the subject is being acted upon or when the emphasis is on the object or the work done.” “Nice one and could you give me an example as well?” (The student will give an example.) “Very good! It’s easy to understand, right? Remember that an active voice is the doer and the passive voice is the receiver of the action. Did you understand?” “Yes Ma’am!” Analysis “Nice. I am pleased with your participation. Now let’s have a short activity before you take the quiz.” “Rewrite the following sentences, change the active to passive voice and, passive to active voice.” (Students answer) Questions: 1. A beautiful sweater was received by Princess from her co-workers. 2. Every seat on the bus was taken. (Students answer) V. Generalization (Students answer) “Now, class, let’s remember that Active voice is the doer or the subject acts. And, Passive voice is the receiver of the acts. Can you again tell me the difference between Active and Passive voice?”
  3. 3. Application Activity: Rewrite the following sentences. Change the passive to active voice and, active to passive voice. 1. The candle were lit by Mother after we were called to dinner by him. 2. When Rosa cuts the grass, the power mower is used by her. 3. Streets than run west and east are cleaned on Wednesdays. 4.
