2. SUBURGATORY
Suburgatory is an American teen drama based around the life
of Tessa and George Altman. Tessa is a teen from New York,
she was moved out of the city by concerned dad George, to
Chatswin (a suburb), a very different, superficial place filled
with suburban families, something that New Yorkers cannot
stand.
The narrative mainly consists of romances, friendships and
normal teenager problems. The first season was aired on E4,
which has a young, niche audience, so the narrative was
lifelike to the audience, as they were/had experienced these
issues.
3. THE INBETWEENERS
The Inbetweeners is a British TV Drama, it aired on channel
4, this makes it appeal to a niche audience, young people in
particular. Although comedy is a huge part of The
Inbetweeners, it is very much a teen drama, this is because
of the encounters, problems and insecurities the boys have.
The show follows the lives of Will, Simon, Jay and Neil.
These boys are not popular at all, they are constantly
tormented by school bullies and each other, they have
awkward sexual encounters. This makes this show quite
relatable because teens usually have these types of
problems.
4. 90210
90210 is an American teen drama, this is because of the
setting, narratives and characters in the show.
It follows the life of a group of students in West Beverly Hills
High School. Some go on to college. This is a real life show,
as most teens go to high school, then some go on to college.
The narrative consists of drug problems, relationships and
general life in and out of education.
5. MY MAD FAT DIARY
My Mad Fat Diary is a British Teen Drama that aired on E4.
This gives the show a very niche audience, which is young
people from 14-20.
My Mad Fat Diary follows the experiences of Rae Earl and her
friends, boyfriends and family who live in Stamford,
Lincolnshire. Rae struggles with mental health. She spent 4
months in a psychiatric hospital.
Rae is the main character, she is overweight, has few friends.
She also struggles with relationships as she is not very
attractive.
Teens will find these issues relatable as all teens struggle
with confidence and relationships.
6. THE 100
The 100 is a sci-fi teen drama, it is set partly in space, and
partly on Earth. The show is about a group of teen criminals
who have lived on a space ship after Earth was wiped out by
a Nuclear war. These teens are sent back down to Earth as
they are the least important people on the ship, when they
get to Earth, they discover deformed animals, grounders and
many threats to their lives.
The plots mostly consist of relationships and fights, the
shows main character is called Clarke, she takes on the role
of leader in the group, as they all turn on each other for
survival.
7. YOUNG DRACULA
Young Dracula is a British teen drama that aired on CBBC.
The show follows the lives of the Dracula family that moved
from Transylvania to Stokely, Wales.
The shows narrative consists of threats to the family, love
between them and humans, and the journey that the children
have to take as young vampires.
8. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
The Vampire Diaries is a teen drama. It is set in Mystic Falls,
and follows the life of Elena Gilbert, an orphan who was
saved by vampire Stefan Salvatore (163 years old)
The narratives contain supernatural occurrences, romances,
deaths and disasters. This makes it very appealing to teens,
as the age group overall favour ‘supernatural type’ shows.
This is because they grew up surrounded by Harry Potter,
Twilight, Buffy and many other supernatural films and TV
shows.
9. BEING HUMAN
Being Human is a British teen drama that aired on BBC
Three. It is about the lives of Annie (a ghost), George (a
werewolf) and Hal (a vampire). It is all about the three trying
to live as much like human beings as possible.
The narratives consist of ghostly presence, the problems the
three face due to being supernatural and others of their own
kind.
