3. Descias o Douro fui esperar-te ao Tejo
(You were coming down Douro river i went wait for you at Tejo
river)

4. Vinhas numa barca que não vi passar
(You came on a boat which I did not see passing by)

5. Corri pela margem prá beira do mar
(I ran through the margin to the seaside)

6. Sei que te vi num castelo de areia
(I know I saw you on a sand castle)

7. Cantavas “Sou gaivota, fui sereia.”
(You were singing “I’am a seagull and I’ve been a mermaid.”)

8. Ri-me de ti, “Então porque não voas?”
(I laughed about you “Than why don’t you fly?”)

9. Então tu olhaste, depois sorriste, abriste a janela e voaste…
(So then you looked, and then you smiled, opened the window
and flew away…)

10. A noite passada fui passear no mar, a viola irmã cuidou de me
arrastar
(Last night I went for a seaside walk, the guitar carried me
along)

11. Chegado ao mar alto abriu-se em dois o mundo
(Reaching the high seas the world opened in two)

12. Olhei para baixo vivias lá no fundo
(I looked down, you lived deep under)

13. Faltou-me o pé, senti que me afundava. Por entre as
algas o teu cabelos molhava
(I felt I was sinking. In betwenn the algae, your wet
hair)

14. A lua cheia escureceu nas águas
(The full moon darkened in the sea)

15. E então falamos
E então dissemos
“Aqui vivemos muitos anos…”
(And so we spoke
And so we said
“Here we have lived for many
years…”)

(Last night a seawall broke)

17. Pela fresta aberta o meu peito fugiu
(By the small gap, my cheast has escaped)

18. Estavas do outro lado a tricotar janelas
(You were on the other side knitting windows)

19. Vias nem segredo ao debruçar-te nelas
(There were no secret for you as you leaned on them)

20. Cheguei-me a ti e disse baixinho “Olá”
(I came near you and quietly said “Hello”)

21. Toquei-te no ombro e a marca ficou lá
(I touchted your sholder and the spot remainded there)

22. O sol inteiro caíu entre os montes
(The hole sun fell in between the montains)

23. Então tu olhaste,
depois sorriste,
disseste:
“Ainda bem que voltaste…”
(And so you looked
and then you smiled,
and said:
“I am glad that you came back…”)
