Charles Perrault
Charles Perrault (12 January 1628 – 16 May
1703) was a French author who lived in the
second half of XVII century.. He laid the
foundations for a new literary genre, the fairy
tale, with his works derived from pre-existing
folk tales.

Many of Perrault's stories were rewritten by the
Brothers Grimm, continue to be printed and
have been adapted to opera, ballet (such as
Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty), theatre,
and film (Disney).

Charles Perrault was born in Paris. He
attended good schools and studied law before
embarking on a career in government service.

Charles Perrault died in Paris in 1703 at age 75.

Tales of Mother Goose
In 1695, Perrault lost his post
as secretary. He decided to
dedicate himself to his children.

 In 1697 he published Tales and
Stories of the Past with Morals 
subtitled Tales of Mother Goose 
Its publication marked the
beginnings of a new literary
genre, the fairy tale.

This book which contained
eight well-chosen stories...

but if one is sickly or

despised. However, it is

who brings good fortune
to the entire family.
