2. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?
After the research I made in six shops at a
shopping centre, I have made some
interesting discoveries.
I know companies use a lot of strategies to
make us feel comfortable and get to acquire
their products, but I have been surprised by
some of the discoveries anyway.
Let’s start!
4. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?
Things I have missed before and my biggest surprises:
Some of the shops have a distinctive smell, something that I
have noticed before. What calls my attention is that the
smell is used by much more shops than I used to think. It is
usually so slight that we do not pay attention to it.
The color scheme of the store and the music are very
important because they transmit the personality of it, making
you feeling active, relaxed, smart, comfortable, etc.
In general the most successful stores, at least in percentage
of customers that purchase products are the ones which
have the lowest ratio of salespeople to customers.
5. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?
Things I have missed before and my
biggest surprises:
The height of the ceiling. It is usually high and makes you
feel free, an aspect that contributes to make you spend
more time in the store.
The items which are in the least accessible locations are
accessories such as bags, hats or shoes.
Most of the people tend to turn on the right when they
enter a shop.
6. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?
Opportunities hidden in plain sight:
Some shops could give their customers ideas to
combine clothes with accessories, putting them
at the same place.
Shops with a high ratio of customers should
take advantage of the contrast of colors (of the
floor and the ceiling, for example) to create a
dynamic and active atmosphere
7. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?
After this exercise I have learnt that paying
attention is very important, because there are
a lot of opportunities behind each situation
and we cannot let them go.
I am sure that from now on I will pay more
attention to all the details!
