  3. 3. Q1. What is the pattern supposed to resemble? Beijing National Aquatics Center, also known as The Water Cube(Image 1), has its outer walls designed based on the Weaire–Phelan structure(Image 2), a structure devised from the natural pattern of something that everyone (I hope) sees every day.
  4. 4. Q2. X & Y? (0.5 each) The name "X" is an anagram of the word "expands". It is the preferred name in North America; in continental Europe it is referred to by variants of "elastane", i.e. élasthanne (France), Elastan (Germany, Sweden), elastano (Spain), elastam (Italy) and elastaan (Netherlands), and is known in the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and Israel primarily as Y, a brand name of a Koch subsidiary Invista, previously a part of DuPont .
  5. 5. Q3. ID X/The show The similarity between X and Sherlock Holmes is not limited to the fact that he solves a certain kind of mysteries. X’s surname, is similar to ‘Holmes’, while his only known friend in the show, who was initially supposed to be his assistant, has a name similar to ‘Watson’. Obviously, Holmes and X lack basic social skills leaving them to be condescending, anti-social narcissists. In between cases, Holmes can be found playing the violin or reading the paper while X could be tinkering on the piano, playing video games or spending time with prostitutes. Another easter egg, is that X is seen living in flat #221B in his apartment
  6. 6. Q4. Shown is X’s interpretation of painting Y. ID The painting and Painter (0.5 each)
  7. 7. Q5. The word _______comes to us from the French and ultimately from the Latin vinum, meaning wine. Per the OED, originally (15th century), _______ just meant the grape harvest and by the 16th century was applied to the process of wine making (gathering, pressing, fermenting, etc.) The OED finds the first use of _______ as particularly good wine in 1604, and by 1746 it was applied to wine from a particular and particularly good harvest. _______ became an attributive noun, modifying nouns like day, dinner, festival, and home (the last patterned after harvest home, a festival to commemorate the end of the harvest season). The OED finds the first attributive sense in 1857, and notes that in 1888 the Encyclopedia Brittanica uses _______ class to denote particularly fine wine.
  8. 8. Q6. ID The country Recently, WWE came under fire for going ahead with their wrestling mega event “Crown Jewel” in Saudi Arabia despite their human rights record. However, this is not the first time a wrestling mega event has been held in a country that wouldn’t give great PR. In 1995, WCW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling held a combined event “Collision in _____”, which featured a dream main event of American Legend Ric Flair, vs Antonio Inoki, the biggest star in Japan. The event also featured an appearance by Muhhamed Ali. Although Inoki, who was also in the Japanese House of Councillors saw the event as an opportuinity to improve relations, and to get him votes with the elections drawing near, it boasts one of the largest ever attendances for a wrestling event, with a crowd of over 150,000.
  9. 9. Q7. What insignia was created to commemorate this? Legend tells us of King Drzislav, who waged a fierce war over Dalmatia with Venetian doge Peter II Orseolo. Unfortunately, he fell into enemy captivity and was thrown into a dungeon. Orseolo learned that he shared a passion for chess with Drzislav, and gave him a witty offer- if the Drzislav can beat him three times in a row, he would win his freedom. Drzislav accepted, and the royal rivals clashed over the board. As it came to be, the king won three matches in a row, and was released. To commemorate this, the king added something to the insignia of his country.

These have been adopted as the national emblem of the country they are found in.
