2. Wax finish is an old-fashion
look that contractors from
the 40âs up to the 50âs used
before urethanes was
introduced in the market.
3. Here are the 9 steps in
how to wax your wooden
floor using two coats of
wax and two coats of
shellac and liquid wax.
4. What You Need
ïŒAmber or clear shellac
ïŒDenatured alcohol
ïŒSteel wool (1/0 to 4/0, depending on sheen
desired)
ïŒSmall steel wool pads for edges
ïŒWhite pad (1/4 - or 3/4 âinch)
ïŒDark or natural brown liquid wax
ïŒ6-inch China made bristle brush or lambâs wool
applicator
ïŒBuffer
ïŒRags
6. Step 2
Use either a 6â
china bristle
brush or a lambâs
wool applicator
to apply the
mixture.
7. Step 3
After applying
the first layer of
the mixture, you
need to buff the
floor first before
you apply another
layer.
8. Step 4
In this step you
will need to make
the floor smooth.
Use a 16âsteel
wool with a thick
white pad for
this.
9. Step 5
In using liquid
wax, pour it out
and use a rag
that can hold a
lot of wax.
10. Step 6
Apply the liquid
wax parallel on
plank floors and
circular motion
for parquet
floors.
11. Step 7
Buff the wax
and polish it
with your
desired sheen
using a buffer.
12. Step 8
Now apply the
second coating.
After applying,
buff it once again
to your desired
luster. Use a white
flannel like rag to
polish the floor
further.
13. Step 9
If the floor is completely dry you can now
move back your furniture. If itâs humid, leave
the floor for at least a day before you
proceed with moving your furniture back.
14. You can either use liquid wax
or paste wax to coat your
finish floor, depending on
your personal choice. Paste
wax is thicker but takes time
to apply while liquid wax is
thinner but smoother and
easy to apply.
