1. Pathways and opportunities for positive personal, social & cultural change in the city of Glenorchy
Context
1 in 3 Australian women have experienced physical
violence that equates to:
● Over 7,600 women in the City of Glenorchy;
● Approximately 52 female staff members within GCC.
An estimated 55% of children who witness family
violence have also been physical abused and 40% have
suffered sexual abuse.
80% of Australian women who have experienced
violence from their current partner have never
contacted Police.
What is White Ribbon ELearning?
A free online course that takes approximately two
hours to complete. Participants can log in and out as
many times as they like over a four week period.
By completing the course participants will:
● Further their understanding of the causes, types,
prevalence and impact of violence against women.
● Learn some practical skills to help them speak up and
take action to help prevent this violence.

GOAL
Glenorchy City Council to be the first Council in
Tasmania where every staff member has achieved
White Ribbon E-Learning accreditation.
What will GCC staff members learn about?

● Debunking myths about men's violence against women
● Primary prevention
● Managing disclosures
● Standing up to violence
Glenorchy City Council’s Vision Statement:

Men’s Referral Service 1300 766 491 (Mon to Fri 9am to 9pm : Weekends 10am to 4.30pm)
Timeline
● Launch concept on White Ribbon Day 2016 (25th Nov)
● All GCC staff to have completed online training by
25th November 2017 to mark White Ribbon Day.
How will Council share its achievements?
● Visual gauge as each staff member gains accreditation
● Encourage other Councils, organisations & businesses
to undertake the same process.
● Professional group photos of staff with certificates
taken in 2017 at Council’s various worksites.
● Media coverage, newsletters, website etc.

Glenorchy City Council says NO to family violence.
We acknowledge the good work being done by
organisation in our city to support families
experiencing family violence and we will continue
to be involved in events to promote positive
messages to prevent family violence in our City and
across Tasmania.
