"I didn't discover it, it discovered me." Suze Orman found her passion in a way she never expected.
Here's how you can find your own passion.
Some of our favorite excerpts:
"I didn't discover it, it discovered me. And I really thought I was gonna be a waitress my whole life. I thought, "Oh, maybe I'll even open up my own restaurant," and that was my goal. Never dawned on me to do anything else than that. I wasn't good in school. I never really got a grade above a C when I was in college. I couldn't read, I had a speech impediment, and blah, blah, blah, blah.
And so, when the customers at the Buttercup Bakery had given me $50,000 to open up my own restaurant, and I didn't know what to do with that money and they told me to put it in Merrill Lynch and just wait, and to make a very long story short, all $50,000 was lost 'cause I had a crooked broker at the time. And then I didn't know what to do and I thought, "I know, I can be a broker, they just make you broker."
And I ended up going to Merrill Lynch to interview for a job, 'cause how was I gonna pay these people back on $400 a month? And they hired me to fill their women's quota. And, before you knew it, I was loving what I was doing. I was loving it. And so, it found me. I didn't find it."
"I never set out to be the number one New York Times bestselling author. I never set out to have my own show. It all just came because I kept going for it and going for it. And when anybody asked me to do anything, I said, "Okay." And one thing led to another, and there you are."
