Self report class 3 - primary
1. Self-Report – Class 3 recording
According to the feedback about this class (class 3) and taking into account that to improve
my performance in every class, it is really necessary to reflect upon our own teaching
experiences, I have decided write a self-report about this.
First of all, I know that in some words I have to improve my pronunciation, if I do not
speak in an appropiate way, my students will repeat it with mistakes. So before every class,
I practice in my house every difficult word.
To continue with, I must be stricter related with the structures that they know. So here, I
must focus on activating students prior knowledge and experience; the students know and
they have been using ‘it’s’ structure, so when they said the name of the animals, they must
have said ‘it’s a …’. When I felt comfortable in the class (because I got very nervous), I
repeated several times the structures when the said just the name of the animal. However,
during the whole class, I worked using the characteristics and knowledge that they
acquired in previous classes, not only about the pet’s names but also their color, shapes and
so on.
On the other hand and related with the topic and the aims of the class, this was focused on
the pets and their characteristics. So here the students recognized the vocabulary, and we
worked in listening skills through the use of a video. Although they enjoyed it, I had some
technical problems, I had to use my computer (notebook) to play it. Thus, not all the
students could watch it correctly, and this made the class a little messy. But the students
could work in a correct way not only we worked with written skill but also we worked in
speaking skill.
Another aspect that I have to improve is giving instructions, not only when I put them in
groups but also individually or in pairs work. I must use more mimic or be more specific
when I explain to them to understand better what they had to do. In spite of that, they
played and worked enthusiastically during the whole class. Here it is important to mention
that this group had the habit to speak in English or listen to the teacher speak to, so they
followed my class without major problems.
Finally and related to strategies I tried to use eliciting questions yes/no were asked to check
students’ regarding the correct identification of the items, for instance: is it yellow? Is it
big? Is it small? The students enjoyed and participated actively, so I listened to and I took
as highly valuable to continue with the class. From my point of view, the way in which they
answer every question was a positive aspect that shows me that they understand me, and
they felt comfortable and motivated to continue participating.
