Festive Art Deco earrings .pdf

  1. 1. Polymer clay Teacher and Artist MIHAELA GEORGESCU www.LearnPolymerClay.com
  2. 2. Hello. Happy to meet you! Hi. I'm Mihaela. And just like you, I love working with clay. I mainly create jewelry pieces using clay, but from time to time I love to create larger pieces like suncatchers or candle holders. Back to our tutorial. I personally love the festive season. And it's always a bliss to create Christmas inspired jewelry pieces. I hope you feel the same and I also hope you'll like this clay idea and you'll use it in your work. Now, let's start making some festive clay earrings! www.LearnPolymerClay.com
  3. 3. www.LearnPolymerClay.com Material List We'll start by properly conditioning the polymer clay. I'm working with navy blue clay, blue metallic clay and scraps from a project in which I used these two types of clay. 1.
  4. 4. www.LearnPolymerClay.com 2. Roll the navy blue clay into a clay log. Roll the metallic clay into another log. As I'm working with scrap clay, I rolled it into a third log. 3. I put the three logs together and twisted them together to get a marble effect.
  5. 5. 4. I passed the clay through the pasta machine on the largest setting. 5. Use the blade to trim off the excess clay. www.LearnPolymerClay.com 6. Use a beautiful stamp to texture the clay. I used a Deco Art stamp from CreateAlong.com
  6. 6. 7. Apply gold metallic wax on top of the textured pattern. www.LearnPolymerClay.com 8. Use baby wipes to remove the excess wax. Use a brush to accentuate some elements. 9. Cut the piece in half using the blade.
  7. 7. 10. Apply gold metallic leaf on the remaining clay. 11. Use the same stamp to texture the clay. Press well on the stamp to get a good impression. www.LearnPolymerClay.com
  8. 8. www.LearnPolymerClay.com 12. Use the rigid blade and scrape off the top of the raised areas. This is called the Hidden Magic technique. 13. Cut the clay piece in half. Them join one piece with gold metal wax with a piece decorated with gold leaf. Put one part on one side of the bead and the other pattern on the other side of the bead (making the front and back of the bead).
  9. 9. www.LearnPolymerClay.com 14. Use a cutter or a template and the craft knife to cut out the desired shape. 15. I used a border cutter to add more interest to the shape of the earrings. 16. Use your tools to smooth off the clay.
  10. 10. And voilâ. You have a beautiful pair of festive earrings. www.LearnPolymerClay.com Thank you for your interest in the tutorial! Use pliers to open and close the jump rings. Attach ear wires to finish the design. 19. Apply varnish to protect the metal leaf and the gold metal wax. Drill holes to attach the piece.s 17. Bake your pieces for 45 minutes at the recommended temperature in the pre- heated oven. I usually cover my clay pieces with an aluminum disposable pan to protect them from direct heat. 18. Let the clay cool down.
