Where?
I have produced this product with the audience of young children around the
ages of 3 to 7 years old, with the target market of parents or other adults
that have young children in that age range to buy for.
This means that the ideal place for me to present this work would be to a
group of children in that age range, possibly a school group or a Beaver Scout
troop. Although I feel this would maybe be a little better to present in a
library to the children and adults, as they are more likely to see that and
think of it when needing to buy for other children as well as their own. I also
feel that adults are possibly more likely to remember and want to buy it if
the children show interest than a child seeing it and remembering to go tell
their parents all of the information to find it again.
With all this in mind, I was first thinking of going to a library, although I
do not want to be with the children in such an intimate environment of
reading them a book, and do not have enough to give each parent a
copy to read their child while there. Because of all this thought, I have
decided that I will show my 4 year old niece and her parents to see how
they feel, as I feel my own parents have at this point, fallen out of the
loop of such a young child’s interests. I am also feeling that talking to a
librarian could be useful, as they will see many children express
different interests to the various books around them, and will likely
know what makes the different books more or less popular.
Showing
I have visited my 4 year old niece, and my sister (her mother) to see their
opinions on this product. I feel this was appropriate as she is generally
interested in rhymes and fun songs, along with many always being attracted
to cartoons and colours of all sorts, no matter what she’s doing. My sister is
also quite clear on what young children around that age like and can do,
seems she is with her own daughter at all times, so I trust her opinion on
whether or not children may like the book. This also helps because she so
often spends time with the other children, at school functions and at
children’s parties that her daughter has been invited to. They did have some
feedback on how the book looks and certain design choices I made, which I
discussed in my evaluation.
Class
I have also shown it in my class, where I realised that I may not have
fully sorted out my presentation before serving it, as I forgot to add a
page in, which I regret not doing, but I was more concerned with
ensuring my script was correct so that I knew what I was saying than
ensuring than I had all the imagery needed as I knew I had my physical
copy of the book beside me.
