4. Definition of metacluster concept:
A trans-regional network of at least 3 clusters
of the same or complementary technological field
EXPERIENCE
Exchange of staff, ideas, practices
Inter-cluster coordination structure
Common action plans and roadmaps
Joint communication tools
COMMITMENT
Engagement of cluster managers and members
Knowledge of the cooperation potential
Supporting strategies and policies
Funding measures
5. Project
methodology
5 task forces have been set up in order to propose concrete
meta-cluster pilot activities.
Energy and Green Technologies
Engineering and Mechatronics
Chemistry and New Materials
ICT
Policy task force
6. Project
methodology
The TFs are composed by project partners and clusters
in order to:
Design a detailed work programme to realise the
corresponding Pilot Activity, defining a timeline,
resources, budget and others specific needs;
Promote the Pilot Activity and secure the participation of
clusters and other stakeholders;

9. 1- Piloting metacluster
The primary aim of the atlas is to provide a tool to
cluster managers to:
Assess the potential of their cluster in the specific
“ecosystem” investigated
Understand how to integrate missing competencies, inviting
new organisations to the cluster or through inter-cluster
collaboration
Promote projects in the relevant business ecosystem, at
local level or through meta-cluster initiatives
10. 1 - Piloting metacluster
The “Alps4EU Knowledge Atlas” is a collaborative tool based on a
wiki platform built with the aim to provide a common framework to
support cluster managers in the reciprocal learning of competencies
available in each other's region and identify collaboration
opportunities in view of launching specific collaboration projects or
meta-cluster initiatives.

16. 2- Analysis at policy
level:
Expected outputs:
A list of relevant activities to be funded at transnational
level
An operational toolkit:
for the implementation of a trans-regional funding
scheme, based on regional programmes.
A letter of intent from Policy Makers or MoU,
expressing their interest in supporting meta-clusters by
putting their effort in trying to implement such action in
the long term
17. 3- Checking the
sustainability
META -CLUSTER LEVEL
Six clusters agreeing to participate to the pilot action of the metacluster in the field of materials with a specific orientation in plastic
processing are the following:
TECOS (Slovenia)
PROPLAST (Italia)
VENETO NANOTECH CLUSTER (Italia)
PLASTIPOLIS (France)
CLUSTERLAND (Austria)
RESEAU PLASTURGIE (Switzerland/Lead Partner)
18. 3- Checking the
sustainability
We asked to clusters to
complete the six
principal target
development objectives
with information about
their situation
Plastic Meta-cluster will meet
during the
Swiss Plastics Fair in
Luzern on 22-23 of January
2014
19. A challenging process
Modern innovation processes are international:
Innovation are not always a result of systematic R&D;
Meta –clusters is a way to support transnational
cooperation of SMEs;
