  4. 4. MARKETING INNOVATION
  5. 5.   Big Mac Shop   McDonald's in Sweden has branched out into the fashion world, launching the Big Mac Shop to sell its  creations of fashions and home decor decorated with simple prints of their trademark burger, the Big Mac. Celebrating its 'I'm Lovin It 24' campaign, Swedish McDonald's launched the Big Mac shop, which currently stocks a handful of products with the same simple print of the flagship burger on a white background. Current products on offer include thermal underwear, bedsheets, a dog coat, and wallpaper, with Big Mac wellies, and rain coat coming soon.  *  Source:  Big  Mac  Shop
  6. 6.   Say It With Chocolate   In an in-store promotion at London's Stansted and Heathrow airports, Cadbury is letting consumers customize its Dairy Milk bars. The confectionary brand is offering samples of its Dairy Milk Range as well as offering options for customization like stickers that can be applied to a gift sleeve. The personalized stickers include messages like "Thank You," "I <3 you" and "Congrats," while other stickers are London-themed. The placement of the promotion is due to Cadbury's in-house marketing research that led them to realize that over 60 percent of travelers believe that chocolate is a good souvenir to be purchased at duty free. *  Source:  Airport-‐World
  7. 7.   Emirates Instagram Scavenger Hunt   To promote the introduction of their fourth daily flight from New York's John F. Kennedy airport, Emirates installed a giant Connect Four game into New York's Herald Square. Emirates promoted the competition on Facebook and Twitter, offering a business-class trip for two to any of its 140 destinations that originate at JFK.  The competition itself took place on the Emirates Instagram, where users were instructed to turn their phone sideways and search through the last 144 posts, where clues are hidden. When the chip is revealed, the crew directs those who found it to post that details instructions for completing the entry.  *  Source:  Emirates  (Instagram)
  8. 8.   Carlsberg's Ideal Supermarket   In its latest installment in its long-running "If Carlsberg did..." the lager maker re-imagines the supermarket as something far from an unnecessary chore. The new ad details what one Carlsberg drinker's ideal supermarket might look like, containing everything from huge musical instruments to such an array of TVs it resembles an IMAX theater. The supermarket includes several sections for what he needs, like the "Sorry" section where gifts can be bought for his upset girlfriend and the power tool section where he can purchase a new power drill. Then comes the beer, lots of it, naturally.  *  Source:  If  Carlsberg  did  Supermarkets
  9. 9.   IKEA: Let's Do Something Green   As temperatures rise and the gardens and balconies seem to be waiting for plant life, IKEA has decided to help usher in the new season with their new encouraging outdoor campaign. IKEA's new billboards that proclaim "Let's Do Something Green" stand out as more than just an inspirational message posted on a billboard. Instead, it is practical advice for what to do with the potted plants that are also attached to the billboard, ready for the taking. The billboard, part of IKEA's Mach Grün campaign, is drawing awareness to IKEA's garden collection, which, apart from plants and garden accessories and furniture, also gives customers plenty of inspiration, as well as little tips and clever green solutions. *  Source:  IKEA:  Mach  Grün
  10. 10. PRODUCT INNOVATION
  11. 11.   IKEA Refugee Shelters   Working with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), IKEA is producing 10,000 of its flat-pack 'Better Shelters' it specifically designed for refugees. The 'Better Shelter' units were tested by 40 refugee families in Iraq and Ethiopia in 2013. Since then, IKEA has incorporated the feedback from the pilot run into a more refined design. Constructed from lightweight polymer panels clipped onto a steel frame, the refinements have made the temporary shelters more durable as well as better insulated. Twice are twice as large as refugee tents traditionally in use, the IKEA structures can be assembled in four hours and are designed to be used for a lifespan of three years. will be distributed by the UNHCR globally later this year. *  Source:  BeEer  Shelter
  12. 12.   Amazon Dash Buttons   In a move that seeks to take their concept of one click buying to the next level, Amazon is sending out Dash Buttons that let selected Prime Members to buy products by pressing a physical button in their house.  The new Dash Buttons will initially be sent to customers who are using Amazon to buy certain household products such as laundry detergent, but still occasionally go to brick-and-mortar stores to purchase them. The Dash Button is meant to make choosing Amazon to buy household products so convenient that purchasing comes down to a simple press of a button at the very part of the house where the product is needed. Dash Button syncs with the Amazon app on mobile devices, so purchases can easily be monitored (or cancelled).  Dash Buttons are currently available to an invite-only group of customers, but will eventually be distributed for 18 household products.  *  Source:  Amazon  Dash  BuEon
  13. 13.   Mini's Augmented Reality Goggles   Mini, the BMW-owned car manufacturer, are developing augmented reality goggles to populate their drivers' fields of vision with helpful information. BMW partnered with Qualcomm for developing the goggles to seamlessly add a digital layer to the driver's perspective. The aviator-style goggles feature 720p displays and two cameras, one forward facing and the other, an infrared camera, tracks the exact position of the goggles. The goggles are also connected to smart technology that allows them to recognize features that would be important to a driver, from aspects of road safety to recognizing printed addresses as possible destinations, the routes to which are digitally overlayed on the road. The goggles also feature a sort of X-Ray vision, as they link with external cameras to allow drivers to "see through" the opaque surfaces of their cars. *  Source:  Pressemeldung:  MINI  Augmented  Vision
  14. 14.   Disney Research 3D-Prints Fabric   With Disney Research's new printing of layered fabric, ew horizons are being explored with this high tech manufacturing technique. As 3D printing gets better at printing flexible materials, fabric, like many materials, remains on the trickier side of this emerging mode of manufacturing. Disney Research is changing that, with their new Layered Fabric 3D Printer, which adds a new technique to the 3D printing repertoire. Rather than constantly adding materials, as in traditional 3D printing, the fabric printer uses a laser to cut the outline of the desired object's dimensions from layered pieces of thick fabric, the result being a flexible, soft object that can be fitted with electronic devices. *  Source:  A  Layered  Fabric  3D  Printer  for  SoO  InteracPve  Objects
  15. 15.   Connected Carry-On   Designed by a San Francisco based team of designers and engineers, Barracuda is a carry-on for the digital age, with connectivity features and a stunning, yet practical ergonomic design. In what its makers are calling the world's first fully collapsible hardside carry-on, the Barracuda combines singular design with unique features such as GPS, USB Charger, ergonomic swivel handle, and a built-in tray. Built to last, the bag is constructed out of ballistic nylon and aircraft-grade aluminum. Built by technology- minded designers, the Barracuda offers all the conveniences for the modern traveler. The project was recently funded via a Kickstarter, and will be delivered later in the year.  *  Source:  Barracuda  Luggage
  16. 16.   'Throwback Thursday' Soda   Mountain Dew is launching a ‘throwback Thursday’ soda- a new product inspired by its true Temessee roots.  Hoping to attract and speak to the millennial audience that is expecting an authentic message, the brand has reached to its real heritage- an actual product that has already been created in 1940 in the backwoods of Tennessee. DEWshine is citrus-flavoured, made with real sugar and comes in clear glass bottles and it is being rolled out across the US during the next few weeks. Mountain Dew has been touring the US to introduce and sample the new soda and the tour will end at Nascar’s Bristol Motor Speedway race on April 19- featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr., a famous American car racing driver.  *  Source:  DEWshine
  17. 17.   Dashbon Mask   Dashbon's new Mask is a set of headphones that integrates a virtual reality display into the headband, allowing wearers to connect a HDMI cable to play movies and games. As Mask's visual display is cleverly integrated into the bridge between the earpieces, its form factor is only slightly larger than normal headphones, yet manages to include 1366-by-768 resolution screens for each eye. The display even includes a battery pack which will power up to four hours of video. The Dashbon was revealed at CES 2015, and Dashbon is now seeking funding via an Indiegogo campaign, which will help them further improve the Mask's ergonomic form until a final shipping date in October.  *  Source:  Mask:  A  Movie  Theater  in  Your  Headphones  (Indiegogo)
  18. 18.   NY Times's Note Taking Table   The New York Times have developed a smart conference table– "The Listening Table"– that records and automatically transcribes meetings– even letting members of the conversation bookmark the meeting's important moments. The Listening Table takes speech recognition to the level of an invaluable productivity tool. Developed by their in-house media design department NYT Labs, which develops tools relevant for the news organization using emerging technologies as raw materials. The Lab was inspired by Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, and dedicated listening technology like Amazon Echo. The result is the Listening Table, which not only makes notetaking by hand unnecessary, but also streamlines the transcription and archiving processes. *  Source:  The  New  York  Times  Invents  A  Conference  Table  That  Takes  Notes  For  You
  19. 19. SERVICE INNOVATION
  20. 20.   Patagonia's Repair Van   Patagonia, an outdoor clothing retailer, is touring the US in the Worn Wear wagon on the mission to repair old clothing and encourage customers to think about how fashion choices affect the environment.  Patagonia has recycled a Dodge pickup truck, pimped it out with recycled wine barrels as walls, solar panels for energy and fueled it with biodiesel. The truck is touring the country- spreading the message about conscious consumerism by offering free apparel mending services and seminars. The wagon’s interior has an industrial sewing machine that repairs any garment that customers decide to bring- from Patagonia or not. 23. 23.   Hotels ByHours   ByHours is a Barcelona-based startup that is rolling out ultra-short accomodation booking throughout Europe, now expanding beyond Spain into the UK. Now with ByHours platform, the pay-by-the-hour accomodation is no longer limited to seedy hotels in unsavoury parts of town or Japanese capsule hotels.
