This document provides an overview of the four sections in the IELTS Listening test. Section 1 involves a short conversation focusing on everyday topics tested through questions like pick from a list or form filling. Section 2 is a talk by one speaker on a general interest topic tested through sentence completion or table completion. Section 3 consists of a discussion between 2-4 speakers on an educational topic tested through multiple choice or matching questions. Section 4 is the longest section involving an academic lecture tested through note completion, flow charts or classification questions.

2. IELTS LISTENING SECTION-1 LISTENING SECTION – 1 Conversation (two speakers) Social/survival e.g. Reports the loss of a briefcase to a police officer. IELTS LISTENING SECTION-3 LISTENING SECTION – 3 Discussion (two to four speakers) educational e.g., discussion about a topic with students These are the question types you will practice here: Multiple choice Labeling a diagram Matching The questions are designed to test whether you can follow the presentation or discussion effectively. As well as understanding the content of what the speakers say, you may also have to recognize speaker’s Attitude: for e.g., whether they are being serious, humorous or sarcastic. 7. IELTS LISTENING SECTION-4 LISTENING SECTION – 4 A lecture or talk by one speaker education e.g., university lecture Section 4 is always a lecture or talk of some kind. The topic will rather be more demanding and according to the aspect of management theory, for example, or an extract from a lecture on child language acquisition but you will not need any specialist knowledge in order to understand it.
