9. •The poem describes a kite and its
different actions. The poem compares
the kite with a ship and also describes
how bad it looks when it is torn.
10. The kite looks bright when it is new. It
flies high and rides on the waves of wind like
a ship. It goes up and falls down with the
wind. You have to wait till wind is there again.
When a kite is trapped on a tree, it looks very
poor and helpless.
11. • The Kite
How bright on the blue
Is a kite when it’s new!
With a dive and a dip
It snaps its tail
Then soars like a ship
With only a sail
As over tides
Of wind it rides,
Climbs to the crest
Of a gust and pulls,
SUMMARY:
A kite looks bright in the sky when you fly it, if it is
new. It dives like a child from a chair on the floor or
a swimmer in the swimming pool. The kite dives or
plunges into the air when it is high up the sky. It also
takes a dip as if in water. Just as devotees takes a
deep in a holy river, the kite takes a dip in the air.
Due to the wind, its tail keeps flapping. Then it flies
high as if a ship riding on waves of sea. The kite
rides on the waves of the wind. You may find the
pattern of wind waves in the sand of a desert. Then
the kite climbs on the top of the strong wind and
pulls its string upwards. As if a monkey climbs the
top of the tree, the kite climbs the strong wind.
12. Then seems to rest As wind
falls.
When string goes slack
You wind it back
And run until
A new breeze blows
And its wings fill
And up it goes!
SUMMARY:
Then as the wind stops
blowing, it falls down as the
thread gets loose. You have to
wind the thread back and wait
breeze starts blowing again.
Then it would go up in the sky
again. Its wings gets filled with
the wind..
13. How bright on the blue
Is a kite when it’s new!
But a raggeder thing
You never will see
When it flaps on a string
In the top of a tree.
HARRY BEHN
SUMMARY:
And it looks new in the sky
again. But it looks so
miserable when it gets
trapped on the top of a
